Here is a photo of the (2) 6727s I have:

IMG_20170911_071840202.jpg

The one on the left came to me as a "stand alone" item; the one on the right was included in set#8165.

They both are nearly identical in performance; initial start up voltage is around 3.5, with a top end right at 10 volts.

As you can see, there are slight differences in the faceplate, as well as color of the power cord itself.

To my mind, the one on the right looks "newer"; can someone here tell me which one is the later release? I'm just curious...

Hi Mark,

The right one is the later one. The left one was made between 1972 and 1974. In 1975 the inscription was changed to "Märklin" with a capital "M", but in the more modern font of the right transformer. The right version with "märklin" (lower "m") appeared in 1978/79 and was delivered until 1996.

Regards

Markus

It looks like the one on the left was produced for the European market whilst the one on the right was produced for the USA. My reason for saying this is that, whilst basically similar, the one on the left is marked in German as was the one that I bought back in the mid '70s with the plate changed to reflect the differing input (not clear but I assume 120V 60Hz rather than 240V 50Hz). I've not seen the one marked in English on this side of the Atlantic - but I could have just missed it!

Hi Bill

Both are indeed intended for the US market, as both are the correct voltage and have the proper plug ends for US-type input sockets. Perhaps the earlier Marklin releases were all(?) in German, and later items featured English face plates for this market...?
