Dutch railways NS will start tomorrow Wednesday 6th September 2017 a trial with a 10 minute frequency Intercity service between Amsterdam Central and Eindhoven Central, that is 6 trains per hour.
Following a successful trial every Wednesday, the improved service will be implemented in the 2018 timetable as from 10th December 2017.
The distance of 120 km on this busy corridor will be covered in 1 hrs 21 min.
The increased frequency will result in some 15 percent more seats for passengers.
The only major stop inbetween will be Utrecht Central, the heart of the Dutch railwaynetwork.
The ultimate aim is to do away with all timetables, implementing a metro/subway type system.
One of the drawbacks is increased closing of beams on given railroadcrossings.
