I have an old analog layout that I have been powering with a blue 30 VA transformer. I have checked the wiring inside and it appears not have any deterioration but would still like to avoid the chance of getting electrocuted, if applicable. Is it possible to just switch over to a newer digital 32 VA to run my analog layout without any issues? I am sure this question has been asked but I was unable to find anything on this specific question.Marklin.jpg

Thanks for your input.

Hi,

If I understand, you want to replace your old blue transformer by the white one on the picture ?

In this case, no problem, this model is pure analog, and not digital a all...

Best Regards
Joël

I've done exactly what you propose. No problem.

A transformer is just a transformer. A big magnet with two sets of wire (sometimes more) wound around a core. There is no such thing as a 'digital' transformer, it's....well, just a transformer! Albeit a more modern and safer transformer than the old blue 280a transformers!

Most Marklin digital (here's where the digital bit comes in) controllers can be powered by a transformer - 6021, MS1, CS1, CS2 and maybe the MS2 (not completely sure there). The CS3 has to be powered with one of the newer switchmode power supplies - 60061 or 60100.
