What is the correct way to use those little red plastic isolator caps 74030?
Should you fit them between the two sets of steel prongs of the connectors at each end of a C track piece, or over one of the sets of prongs, and if so, does it matter which of the sets vou fit the cap onto?
The Maerklin instruction diagram for 74030 is not really clear on this point.
BTW, at Eu 2.5 MRP for eight little plastic caps that probably cost less to make than the plastic baggie they come in 74030 must be Maerklin's most overpriced accessory.

Perhaps the 3rail wiki is helping, even it is in dutch language. But they have a few interesting pictures from the isolation "downunder".BigGrin

The correct way is over the 2 prongs. Actually it is easier than it looks. The minute you start pushing the isolator against the 2 prongs the prongs squeeze together and the isolator slides on.

Thanks. The photos and description were just what I needed.
That 3 Rail Wiki is a useful site--if you can read Dutch--fortunately I can.

Where you put them is on the pointed prong (like a condom). Now which prongs you put the isolator on depends on what you are trying to isolate.
If your looking to isolate the center (power) feed, or the ground rail feed. Each has 2 prongs at a joint between the rail sections. And if your making an isolated rail section for detection, you only need to isolate one side and clip the under-track connection between the left and right rails, but if your isolating both sides or the center conductor you need 2 per joint (ie you want to clip rail connections only where necessary to retain the most interconnect paths/conductivity possible).
