don't be to upset when your loco falls off the table or 2 locos collide they never really leave to much damage behind and you can thank the lucky stars

your loco will never finish up like this.

Frankly, I am more concerned about any casualties than the loco itself. Locos, big or small, can always be replaced, obviously; people can't.

Do you have any info on this accident?

Thanks.

Hi,

The picture was taken in June 2000 when the train Vintimille (Ventimiglia) -Calais derailed in Chasse-sur-Rhône (Isère) when it hit 60kg of steel which were placed on a railroad-crossing by a mental ill person. Two people were killed, 12 or 15 injured.

Thank you, Markus.

The French article appears to strongly suggest this to have been an act of Islamic terrorism. Albeit, the suspect did have mental problems.

However, a subsequent article states the opposite.

How one mentally disturbed man acting alone could throw six pieces of steel rail weighing 60 kilos each over the rail line is hard to believe for me:

"The suspect stammered that he had "thrown the rails loose on the track, like that." The police officers do not believe a word, as the six pieces of steel rail, 1.50 m long and 60 kg each, seem to have been "pulled from the yard nearby and then placed on the railway track" By Moussa H. who, according to a commissioner, "did not realize the consequences of his act"." (Google translation.)

In any event, here is the second article in French (above para is the last one in the article):

Hi Baggio,

Yes, but that's an article published early after the tragedy. But the suspect was never judged for that act due to his mental condition.

Most important is the first sentence. But I was not able to find a fully correct translation to English.

The locomotive was wrecked afterwards and not rebuild.

Markus

Just out of interest, the loco is a duel voltage bb26000 Syibic class introduced in the early 90s. Some I believe have now been scrapped due to excessive chassis decay. They have been apparently very reliable locomotives after early teething problems. Marklin have done a few models of these locos. They Even altered the body grills as SNCF did so? There good solid, nicely detailed reliable old school Marklin👍😁
