Hello guys.

I have been looking for some H0 naval ships for the last three days.
Can it really be the case that there simply isnt any?!?

I am looking for german navy vessels which could be used in a Era IV harbour layout.
Submarine or some kind of destroyer or frigate maybe.

Simply cant find any at all.. Regardless of nationality :S

Any ideas?
Best Regards
Frank

Revell make a couple of 1/72 submarines, as well as a few civilian ships in the same scale.

I've also seen some small warships from other manufacturers; patrol boats, motor torpedo boats, etc.

You would want to have a pretty huge layout to support H0 Naval Vessels like submarines and destroyers... A sub would have to be 800mm and a destroyer like an English Type 45 would be around 1.75m..

Or you contact "IG Kaiserliche Marine":
They are operating 1/100 scale navy ships (pre-1945 though) in front of a H0 scale quayside complete with H0 scale trains - see video.

Quite costly and cumbersome: 1:100 scale kits of naval vessels (all pre-1945); one needs to combine hulls, superstructures and accessories from various lists.

German prototypes

Mostly German and some Russian prototypes

Thanks for the inputs guys.
But sadly not what i am searching for :(

Space is not an issue, so a sub or destroyer would not be a problem to find the space needed for.

I must search some more i guess...

Giving up that easily?

The Artitec submarine presented in posts #3 and #5 models the German type VIIc prototypes which were commissioned in the 1940s. Some of these submarines surrendered to the Allied forces and continued to be used for some time. E.g. U-1108 became a British N-class submarine.

For Germany, epoch IV ranged from 1965 until 1990. In Portugal, submarines built in the 1940s were in service until the end of the 1960s.

So with modeler's license one could display one of these on an epoch IV layout (Portugal as NATO partner sending a submarine to visit a German port?). Or kitbash one to give it a more modern look.

I've found some small warships in 1/72 scale that could be adapted to look like their German equivalents

There's even an old kit of a German navy E Boat from Airfix

There are also many submarine kits available in 1/72 which can be used.

Stunning model, imagine that on a MRR layout with a dock side diorama and trains running fuel, supplies and munitions in.
Don't look back, your not heading that way.

Alsterstreek, no im not giving up :)

I can and will be done in some way.
Just a question about time and willpower.

All the boats shown are not the types im after. It would be the best with a nice sub.
If nothing comes up, i might give it a shot and find some blueprints of some kind. maybe from a model, and scale it up myself.
Would be a nice winter project maybe :)
Best Regards

Here is a link to Reynaulds Euro Imports here in the states. They have Artmaster kits for 1/87 Submarines. The kits are for above waterline only. https://www.reynaulds.com/catalog/dept_1363.aspx.
Hope this helps.

Happy Model Railroading

H0 scale ships are a problem - as they are just too large for most uses (in order to justify a manufacturer making them they would need to sell enough of them).
Another option is using forced perspective - use a smaller scale ship and put it in the background area so it would look ok at its smaller scale.

$250 for that awesome resin model of the Artmaster Class VII C submarine, but you really gotta be comitted to the harbor scene as your centerpiece to fit this sort of thing in unless its for a module to be used at shows.

At $250? What about 3D printing it? Must be some 3D model floating around somewhere....
