The string leading to the hook of my crane got tangled on itself.I did manage to remove the drum that the string wraps around. Presently, the sting is shorter than it should be. I would like to know how to service the crane properly. I got away with the uninformed butcher technique, but I would like to reenter this crane's mechanism with knowledge next time.

Hi Giles,

Here are two pictures of my opened 46715 digital crane:

It has been a while since I last opened it.
I think it is about unlatching the plastic housing from the rear to lift it

I hope it helps
Cheers

Jean

Very interested in this as I have the same problem with mine.
Send it back to the service center of Marklin in the Netherlands but they didn't want to touch it and got it back unrepaired
Didn't dare to open it myself until now maybe

I took the cab off the same way you did. The tricky part for me was removing the black "wheels" as seen the top rear of the crane to rewind the string. I can offer no help as I used the Mickey Mouse, take my chances technique. Maybe I just got lucky. I sure would like to know how to fix it properly.

I also need to open my crane up, as it pulled its jib and hook up as far as it will go and wont let it down....

The user posted images in this thread no longer load... does anyone have images of the inside?

Hi Dale

I have refreshed the 2 pictures on my 46715 crane.

To open it you need
- it you can arrange to unwind as much as you can both the hook and the boom wires
- to separate the flat car with current pick-up
- to unlatch with a small screwdriver both the bottom front and bottom end of the cabin to open it

The Marklin wire is very thin and strong but "breaks" with aging as it may be made of carbon. Others and me are having the same problem but I haven't found the proper replacement

Sorry for the dust on my pictures
Cheers

Update: I managed to open the shell. It was on very tight and the plastic seems to have lost its elasticity, so it did split a bit at the back.

I was able to rotate the two wheels for the jib and hook lines enough to release the tension and it is now working again! Phew!

thanks!
