Hi All,

I am starting a New C Track layout, which will be nephew friendly. I would like to add some push button sound effects. However I am not sure where to start. The effects I am thinking are background and building related e.g., the fire station and church

Thank you in advance

Noch has a few sound effects devices which can be controlled by buttons or other switches.
Here's the link to the official Noch website:

Best looking setup for background sounds I've found is at:

http://www.fantasonics.com/store/cd.html

Web site has sound previews of all the different 'scenes' they offer, which provides a fair amount of free entertainment. Now to figure out how to afford this...

Viessmann also make a variety of moving figures, flashing items and sound modules (church bells, sirens, wood chopping, gun fire and others) that can all be operated via some form of personal interaction, such as a push button.

Marklin did of course (many years ago) produce a horn that cound be operated manually.

I hope you will keep us informed of what you do decide to install.

have you considered just running an old computer with sound files on it, and set them up with shortcuts so you can start and sounds as needed?

Morning All,

Thank you for you advice and suggestions. To start with I am going to give Dales idea a try and continue to look in to the other ideas put forward. I have also had a look at the sound module that Faller sells

Once again Cheers

While I do not normaly get engines with sound as with such a small layout, the sound never fades away like in the real world and thus gets annoying very quickly for me. I do like some quiet background sounds. The sounds of diesels/steam locomotives idling in the engine service facilty. Station announcements and sounds in the station area and so on. There are several companies that offer stand alone sound circuits of various sounds of all types. Just mount the board under the layout, or inside a building and hide the speaker somewhere. The volume is variable so it can be as loud or as soft as you want it. I find it adds the ambience that might be the final item missing in a scene on a layout. Even when trains are not running, but with the village/city all lighted and the back ground sounds going, its just like that "down" time between trains. Mike
