4600.jpg4600 2.jpgGood afternoon

A while back I found for a few dollars a Marklin 4600 car. I have a plan for a small consist for it and the light works, however the pick up shoe is in terrible shape, its likely the original one. It still works, but drags terribly. Given the way it connects, I highly doubt there are replacements for the entire unit (though I am happy to be wrong if someone knows otherwise). Otherwise, given that, I could probably remove the slider from the connection piece, so going that route, what slider would you recommend.

Suggestions and comments welcome

Thanks!

Hi,

The car was equipped with an early version of 7076. The spare-part number for the slider was 320230, but this is not available any more. But complete 7076 are not rare and frequently offered on ebay.

Thanks Marksu, that's what I needed to know!

And I just found one for $12, very happy!

By the way, the latern with the wire is/was part no. 7079. It just clips onto any buffer.

Hi Harold,

...as long as the buffer is made of metal and the car has a metal-chassis. Otherwise you can just clip it on the buffer but it will not work.

Yes, so it can ground, with a plastic buffer it can't ground and thus wont work. Right now on the 4600 it works, but the slide doesn't line well across the third rail. As I said earlier in this thread, I found one on eBay and intend to trade it out. I have many older, what I like call "orange box era" that I could attach the lantern to, as long as the length between bogies fits the pick up of course.

Hi, sjbartels,

the slider does not fit on cars with bogies, but only on 4-wheeled cars with the right distance range between the axles, i.e., most of the old 45xx cars and on certain ones of the 46xx cars.

When we were kids we enjoyed our tinplate trains rattling over tinplate tracks - nowadays they're in need of sound decoders.

Quite correct Markus and Sancho! I'm stuck in the '60s with my thoughts, where almost all cars had metal frames and buffers. I still have the boxes for the slider and lantern with prices. The 7076 was DM 1.25 and the 7079 was DM 2.50. Now you know the vintage of my M stock and thoughts! 😆

My light is on the 4503 flat car, the boom support for the 4511 crane.
