Not a great question I am afraid. However I have wiring on top of the board which can not go underneath. This is mainly lighting for buildings. In order to hide the wires I intend to cover with PVA then scatter material. The wires are the Faller building lights and ordinary Marklin wires. Does anybody know if the glue will in time damage the wires.
Will probably use Noch glue.
Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Hi David,

I would not worry about it. Even if the glue would damage the insulation, the copper cores of the various wires would be fixed within the glue and separated from each other.

Best regards,
Gregor

Although I don't think the glue would be of any issue, make sure you mark out where you put the wires for future reference, in case you drill holes later to put trees and other scenery in place.

Use neutral based silicone (roof and gutter).
Being neutral based would not eat into the coating of the wiring.

Hi David,

If you want to wire the lights for the buildings, yo can also do it prototypical.

This can also be made in H0-size and the wires needed for the illumination of buildings can be very thin. In the 1960s and 1970s someone also offered it ready-made.

Many thanks folks. I prefer underboard for wiring but one part of the layout is just not suitable.
Will bury the wires with scatter and grass as I expect it should be .
Thanks for answering what is an unusual question.

Can also be creative, like using wires as railing, grass edging or a border along a roadway.
Wires can be painted.
Can use a thicker wire as a curb along a roadway with a sidewalk.
Don't limit yourself here.

Best,
Walter

Building on what Walter indicated, better yet, run the wiring with thin enameled wire as above ground power lines on masts. Then near the buildings or other distribution points, have then go down to a distribution box (to disappear into buildings) or a substation to tap the main under board source)

Hi David. Busch use to make a power line set?
I have used some of the copper wire from the accessories which provided you with live overhead cables to power street lights and houses. It was a neat idea. Useing model power lines to light up your layout? Here's how I used just the cable to light one or two of my buildings?

Hi David,
I think you need to bury it a scale 18"* or so deep so that Preiserlings don't get a shock while gardening.

* Check your local building codes

Roger

More great ideas. Thanks again.

Roger. Preiserlings should be OK as they can wear shock proof boots and shoes and they don't move around much. As for local building codes ... would need to speak to my wife lol.

There's an old saying with modeling, if you have a problem - ie something obvious you cannot hide, don't even bother trying - make a feature of it!!

The ideas of telegraph/power poles, and or fences is very good, you could also try a gutter or pavement along the edge of a roadway, something that is naturally raised slightly so the wires can go in/under.

You could also consider lowering the required capacity by switching from incandescent bulbs to LED's, this would allow you to get away with some very fine wires indeed.

Let us know what you finally decide to do, and photos of course, need lots of photos.

Regards

Cookee
