Confused I have been trying to update the decoders using the CS2. Regardless of the locomotive, I get the following error:
"The version query to the decoder was not successful."
I have retried the process and reset the locomotive prior to attempts as well. Any advice?

Thanks!

Some decoders are locked against updates. Most factory-installed mfx decoders are.
Make sure the decoders can be updated before you try again.

Which locos? Which update?

Tom

Thank you for your reply. The locomotives I have attempted to update are:
37732
37384
36653
37437
37863
Interestingly, when I attempt the update 37732, the CS2 reports that the decoder is not a Marklin decoder, despite having purchased the unit new in box.
Confused
Thanks for any further guidance you can provide.

The 37732 and the 37384 should have ESU decoders. You cannot update ESU decoders with the CS2.
Until about 2011 Märklin used mfx decoders from ESU. They started using own mfx decoders in 2008.

Upgrades should work for decoders with mfx+ and DCC in Märklin locos from 2016 or later.

I guess the 37863 is the newest loco on that list - and still too old for decoder updates.

Please update your CS2, this situation was (largely) addressed with last years update.

There was a comedy of errors that meant
- newer decoders not recognised
- update files not produced correctly
- updates not applied correctly (corrupted information)
- poor messaing (not just the lack of english)
- etc...

P.S. it looks like the CS3 update process has inherited some of this old (incorrect) validation logic

Oh, and ensure you are using the "Prog" track output and not the main track output to connect to the Loco
