I more enjoy reading everyone's posts on here instead of me posting, but I thought this would be a great place to ask about something I just purchased!

The clockwork set in the photo is one I just purchased off Etsy. I emailed the seller a few times and negotiated a price for it. He says it's all Marklin, and I was wondering if anyone here could identify it, as well as a possible time of production?

The photo here is from the seller. I will post more photos when I receive it.

My aim is to make sure it's operating and only do necessary repairs for that (as well as work on that locomotive cab roof and track!) but beyond that I want it's history of being played with and loved to show.

Can anyone help me? Let me know.

Thank you!

Hi,

That's a Marklin R981 with coaches 1892 and 1891. They all date from about 1925 - 1926 and would have come together in a set. The signal may be made by Bing - a photo of the maker's mark (usually on the base) should identify the manufacturer.

Regards
Peter
