Hi,

I was wondering whether anyone could tell me about the loco hauled IC carriages that I saw in this video:

at point 16:45.

They are loco hauled but look like ICE carriages.

Thanks,
Carim

They seem to be in operation in the socalled Alex service between Muenich and Prague.
Some coaches wear the Alex markings, others wear the Czech railway markings.
Please google on Alex train service and opt for pictures, everything is there.

Sorry no, I didn't mean the Alex ones; there is a IC push-pull unit going from right to left in the foreground - instead of the usual white with red stripe livery, this also has black window surrounds like ICE units. So I was wondering whether this is a new class of loco hauled carriage?

Looks like one of the two former Metropolitan trains.
I think they are now used for loco-hauled ICE trains.

Former „Metropolitan“ train set. 1999-2004, the Metropolitan was a premium passenger train service between Cologne and Hamburg, traveling at a maximum speed of 220 km/h (140 mph). The push–pull trainunits with control cars were hauled by specifically equipped DB Class 101 highpower locomotives. Each unit comprised seven specially manufactured railway coaches based on ICE 2 cars, with flexible gangway connections and a lavish interior. Revarnished and integrated into the DB rolling stock, former Metropolitan transets currently run on the ICE line between Berlin and Munich.

Thanks everyone for all that info - I think it looks like a cool train (even the DB version), maybe a scratchbuilding project for me one day. BigGrin

Well, the prototype is spectacular. Before 2004, I managed to catch the original Metropolitan a couple of times, and I loved riding it. I understand that the luxurious interior is still present.

@Carim,

The Metropolitan or should I say ex-Metropolitan is available for 3 rail AC and 2 rail DC from LS Models

www.lsmodels.com

Try Huenerbein.de. In USA try Eurotrainhobby, TEE USA (Eurolokshop) or Reynaulds

Probably minimum radius of around 460mm.

Regards

Mike C

Hi Mike,

Thanks for that info. However, I model in Z Scale so I doubt that there will be a ready-to-run model any time soon. Not to worry though, I have spotted a 3-D print for the bodies of an ICE-3 and as I don't want a 7 coach ICE, I can use some of the spares to make Metropolitans.
