Hello friends,

Is HAMO a general term for a specific type of locos or is it another trade name ?

When I saw a HAMO item, can I assume that it's made by Marklin but just for 2 rail system ?

Whoelse makes/made HAMO ?

Thanks and Merry X'mas.

Eric

From 1966 and on, yes..

Otherwise a googlelized robot translation of the http://modellbahnarchiv....schland/Hamo/index.shtml page gives:

Hamo - a short firm history
HAMO (= Alfred Hannemann model construction, later under toy and model construction A. Hannemann) was created 1952 by Alfred Hannemann in Nuernberg.

End of the 40's developed the Nuernberger electrical and play goods dealer George Doerfler of streetcar models in size 00/H0 in 2-Leiter-Gleichstromtechnik. For the marketing of these models it created about 1950 together with engineer A. Feldgiebel the company FEMO in damp with Nuernberg. 1951 was presented the models on the play goods fair in Nuernberg. Beside a motor coach with sidecar were also groove tracks (out of sheet metal), overhead lines and an original driving switch issued. The technical literature was inspired. The offer found however no considerable resonance in the form of orders. A series production of the models was therefore reset. End of 1952 the plans and tools became to the company HAMO - Alfred Hannemann model construction sells. Hannemann revised the models and again presented the offer on the play goods fair 1953 with hoped for success.

Starting from 1953 HAMO placed then streetcars from die-cast zinc in size 00/H0 ago (on a scale clearly more largely than 1:87). In addition its own plastic track system was created. Thus became this time (and until today!) singular streetcar assortment offered.

The HAMO program was extended in 1954-62. Apart from different streetcars and (failed) experiments with plastic housings, 1959 and 1960 even two H0-Diesellokomotiven (V 80, V 160 ' Lollo ', both also as kit) were taken up to the program. Besides there were also chassis and individual parts for the self's building of streetcars. Remarkably also the automatic clutch, similarly the sharp mountain clutch.

As last novelties 1962 appeared the old timer motor coach T 204 and in the year after the suitable sidecar A 204. In October 1963 Alfred Hannemann concluded his company from personal reasons. This was not however the end, because the company Maerklin occurred as new owner and again opened the company in February 1964 under the name "HAMO model vehicles GmbH".

In this year beside the streetcar program also a Maerklin E was offered to 44 (Maerklin # 3011), which was assembled by Hannemann and offered as HAMO E 44: "desires an E 44 for wechselstrombetrieb , then you require you with its specialist shop the locomotive of the company HAMO, Nuernberg provided from Maerklin parts." it means as note in the catalog 1964/65.

In the catalog 1965/66 the HAMO Wechselstromangebot was then extended to a whole side and under the title of " HAMO lover models - something special for your layoutt" angepriesen. Beside the 3011 this was the 3023, 3024, 3052 and 3063. The streetcar program received new part numbers. The diesel locomotives were not available any longer. One year later in the catalog 1966/67 shrank the offer of the Maerklin locomotives on the 3011, 3052 and 3063 together, offered than " Maerklin lover models " on only one thirds side in the catalog.

In February 1966 then the folding sheet TA appeared 02 66 Ka, in which the name HAMO for the two-rail direct current offer of the company Maerklin was coined/shaped. Maerklin took over the direct selling of the streetcars. At the same time however streetcar production ran out already. In the mentioned folding sheet except motor coaches and trailers no rails, accessories or gift packings were more offered. After 1967 the streetcar disappeared completely from the catalogs.

Yes, you should be able to. We have some of the newer Hamo's and you even have room to mount the slider. Great for digital conversions.
