I was looking on ebay at vintage Marklin and came across this gem. Some guy in USA is selling what he claims is a very rare hr800 2-6-4 steam loco. Not a missprint as the photo shows the loco as a 2-6-4. Its a series 3 but there is no tender with it and no mention of it been lost. This is seller with over 4000 sales and a 99.9 rating . So far it got 6 offers up to $55 or so with 9 days to go. I will wait and see how high it goes. It looks ok apart from wheels and missing tender and even has paddle slider. Eddie Confused Confused

Hi Eddie,

My feeling is that someone has assembled the pony trucks incorrectly. They probably took them off and put them back on at the wrong ends! The HR800 is a 4-6-2, as you can see from other examples on ebay.

I believe you're referring to this loco on eBay:

I agree it was just re-assembled incorrectly by the owner or changed to reduce the chance of derailments.

Hi Malin,

In most cases it very much easier to find a single loco for a tender than the other way. I remember that I needed about six years to find the right tender for a 1950 SK 800. An exception are the tin tenders for models which are affected by zincpest eg HR 700, SLR 700/800 or R 700. In these cases the number of tenders in the market is much higher than the number of locos surviving.

Regards

Markus
