I would be interested in any experience when soldering K-track (22xx series), especially soldering mass contacts directly to the rails.

I always thought that soldering is only possible at the splice plates at the ends of the K-tracks. This is because the rails are made of stainless steel profile on which the usual electronics solder metal does not hold.

Recently, on a trip to the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg I saw that there were solderings at the rails. I suppose they use a special solder metal. Any ideas what this could be ?

Hello Hans Martin.

I have heard of a way, but not found it yet myself. 1_gauge tracks are also stainless, and I have tried a lot, but without succes.

So please, you who know, now there are 2 of us! biggrin

These rails can only be soldered with acid flux solder. Over time, it will corrode and cause problems. Maybe at MIWULA they have enough other maintenace on going so that they can absorb this extra effort.

What about electrical soldering, with no add-on metal?

Has anybody tried that?
