I normally pre-order more items for delivery during the year but I've often been disappointed when items are delayed. I will try just ordering what is coming out soon from now on.

I was surprised at that too, Roger. There are a lot of Swiss rail fans out there too. Maybe later this year? Who knows? Peter.

I hope so Peter. Belle at AJCKids commented that she has heard from other customers with the same disappointment. It is probably two much to hope for but I need two typical train-sets for the 2005 era I am modelling; Voralpen Express with an Re456 and RBDe 560 4 car trainset.

I ordered the 43989 Bavarian baggage car. I missed out on the previous offering. I am still waiting on the 42121 Wurt baggage car that I ordered last year. It seems that Marklin's Era I offerings have been very skimpy as of late.

I imagine that there is no way for a maker to satisfy everyone.... they seem to go through batches of this-and-that, and one year its a bounty for what you like and another year it is a famine.

I've ordered:

  • The insider BR103.1 long cab 30170
  • The Gläsernen Zug 37584 which I'm targeting to run as a type Zugspitzbahn standin from München up into the mountains and back (where the Zugspitzbahn runs from Garmisch-Partenkirchen up the cog railway to the summit).
  • The ROBEL 54.22 crane maintenance loco 39549 for pulling the track maintenance cars.
  • The English language version of the CS3 book 03092, just to read up on, even though I'm first trying the Banana-Pi + daugherboard interface between computer and layout.
  • And then a Roco Düwag 70's/80's Jägermeister branded electric tram 52580 for use in my layout Mannheim zone.

So the box of 'stuff' wont really arrive until a year from now (Feb 2018) as some of the stuff in the order is not going to be produced till 1/18.

Roger,

first of all, you should check this out: http://www.alpnacher-mod...h/images/pdf/H0re446.pdf

Limited production Roco Re 446 in newer SOB liveries

As far as Swiss items, there were a few interesting models. There was the Fas hopper car set, the Weiacher Kies sets (You need at least 3 sets (9 cars) to make up a reasonable size rake). There are the updated Wascosa tankers, which although labelled DB, they belong to a Swiss company.
I was very excited to see the RAlpin coach to go with the 47416/47417 ROLA sets. That will look amazing behind a BLS 482, 486 or 187.
The AAE Post cars will make for another nice consist behind a Cargo Lok or red Re 6/6 or Re 4/4II, as will the SBB Cargo container cars.

The Re 460 has the new livery and does not have the "2000" on the cab ends. I will be pleased to have a second one (along with my 37462).

The nice thing about modeling Swiss is that you can have rolling stock from all over Europe in your consists. From modern container cars to a mix of classic DB, FS and other freight cars behind an Ae 6/6 or Be 6/8.

You should also check other manufacturers as there were a lot of Swiss models this year. I am looking forward to the LSM Bm 4/4, the Roco (and other) BLS Re 475 (sure to come from Maerklin at some point). There is also the Piko Ae 4/7 which I am closely watching.

I would not worry about Maerklin too much. I see a lot of Swiss models in the future, including:

Swiss Rail Traffic Re 487 (privately owned 187)
SBB Cargo Class 193 (Vectron) both ELL and Reichsmuth/LokRoll models with 4 Pantographs (livery still not known)

These are also the possibility of a Re 420 Cargo. They have made a Re 421, but not yet a Re 4/4II in the Cargo livery.

I am still waiting to see what, if anything, Maerklin will announce as Export models for 2017.
You should also check Swiss websites to see if you missed any of the limited models that came out in 2015-2016, like the red Ae 6/6 with upgraded railings and wipers.

As I mentioned in response to a previous post about the Voralpen Express, you should check out HUI Modellbau. The chances of seeing a major brand version of this trainset is very unlikely, although a RBDe 561 consist is possible from Liliput (but the price would be high compared to say the KISS, Flirt or NPZ Domino models) due to increased production costs.

Regards

I ordered the 43612 RAlpin coach to go with the matching ROLA cars that were released a few years ago. I have the ACME version in 1/87 on order, but I thought that the new Maerklin model would be easier to illuminate. I will equip it with interior lighting and digitally controlled tail lights for when the coach is at the rear of the consist.
I already had the Postal cars on order. They will go nicely, either with the Liliput AAE Post container cars or as a standalone consist.

I am interested in the Fas hopper cars. I will probably get the SBB Cargo container cars too. I would much rather have seen a set of Hupac Sgns cars. I just picked up a 47081 "Vos Logistics" set that had Hupac markings, but would love to see a few more cars for my container trains to go with the 47441/47444/47453/47456 cars/car sets.

I passed on the SBB/ELL 193. I am waiting for the 4 pantograph model. The version that Maerklin released is only operated in Germany and Austria.
I have not decided on the BLS 187, because I want to see the Roco and ACME models first. I am disappointed that Maerklin is making these models as part of the dressed up hobby range.

Regards

I have both of those on order as well as several coaches and no idea when they might arrive. I did get two coaches of each type a few weeks ago, so they are indeed being made. I was very disappointed to see that both the Bavarian and Wurttemberg coaches can only be lighted in the Trix format. Angry

The only other item I have on pre-order is that Insider 103 and rake of coaches. I am REALLY looking forward to that one and I think that train will be wonderful. BigGrin

Hello, reviving this post after 4 years :-)
On post #16 Francisco says he has ordered a new 37484 loco. 4 years have gone by.
How does this loco work ? Is it as expected ? Does it show sign of zinkpest on the bogeys ?
Can you tell us your experience with this loco, please?
I ask because I've seen one at an auction and woud like to know a bit more about it before spending money :-)
Thank you
Marco

I pre ordered a #39199 SBB Cargo Vectron. I kind of also want an ICE4, but am torn between Marklin's and Piko's. My ICE 3 has no sound, and the interior lighting is not Led, and turns on with headlights. It isn't seperately switchable. It's a runner though! Takes my steep grades with 5 units.

The Piko ICE 4 is pricier and only has 4 units. So it's correct to scale. How many of us have R3 and R4 radius curves?
