I went to the Macklin site and found the manual for 86 locomotives. It shows a single screw from the top but mine does not have one. The motor stopped working so I need access to the motor. If I move it by hand the lights come on so I know I have power to it. I also have another locomotive that does work. Can anyone tell me how to get this apart?

Hi, Gary,
Welcome to the forum.

Your loco is from the ’50s.

The screw on top applies to the new model (’70s and later).

I don't know how to open the old TT800 - but I’m sure somebody else will be able to help you.
Regards
Tom

Hi Gary,

Welcome to the forum.

Here is the manual for the TT800. The section "Care of Collector..." describes how to dismantle the loco:

Thank you Markus. The manual was somewhat vague but gave me enough that I was able to get it from there. I took out the brushes and cleaned things up. It is back in action now.
