Hi, when you try to remove the housing from some Traxx locos (Roco) you need to remove the buffer assembly by turning the loco upside down, use a medium size screwdriver (for model trains), insert the screwdriver behind the buffer and push the buffer assembly outwards but you have to do it on both sides, little by little.

when refitting the buffer assembly look out for the side footstep on the buffer assembly and make sure when you refit the assembly the footplate is above the housing again using a screwdriver and keep the footplate above and do this the same way by pushing each side slowly back. to take the housing off its the same as before just spread the housing outwards and it will lift off.

I don't know if this post was made for me, but thanks for the information. I was trying to figure out where there might be clips or other restraining features that I would need to release to pop the buffer beam out in order to remove the original housing to replace it with an alternative one.
