Hi, can anyone help in tell me if I need to upgrade the motor in a Marklin 3426 autorail SNCB,[autorail, to a DC one, for use with an MFX diesel sound decoder. Also which decoder should I use? Please. Thanks Dan.

I think that this autorail has a DC motor with flywheel.
The part list and plan are not available in Marklin database

But if you can take a photo of the inside or have the manual We can be sure exactly for the motor type

These motors (like the one in 3425) are working fine with modern Marklin decoders
So I recommend to use the 60976 (21 pin) if there is available space (I don't think so) or the 60986 exactly the same but in more compact package

Excellent mSD3 decoders with sound and 32 functions (lights and 4 more aux for interior lighting etc)

Of course after you have to change the value in CV 52 for the correct motor.... and run the autoregulation procedure with CV 7

Hi Dan
Electrically speaking a Loksound V4.0 or better would do.
Only one slight problem with speaker location, you may need to cut off some of the interior. But in the luggage room area, that won't be very disturbing.
Good luck!

Hello Dan,

I don't think this locomotive is suitable for a sound decoder upgrade as the loco is very noisy.

I converted this loco for a friend and documented all the steps I took to improve the running and tried to reduce the grinding noise of this locomotive with some small degree of success.

The article

I hope you find the article useful.

PS. I can provide the Lokprogrammer file if you decide to go use my method of conversion.
