Kind of silly talking about shipping costs for the item. If you can plonk down €29K for a loco you can fly anywhere to pick it up in person.

Yes, absolutely!
Even for less than that.
I once flew to Australia for only two days , just to pick up a very rare , brand new and untouched 1927 Meccano n°7 outfit. (which included the elusive Meccano Accumulator!)
Yes , it was worth it, including the extra baggage charge for the over 60lbs heavy item.
And the face of the customs' officers when, back to California, I made my customs declaration: priceless!

It's a rare and beautiful locomotive. At first I had some doubts about originality but have since talked with some fellow collectors that established its provenance and believe it to be original. I do not know of any "fakes" of the E 800 LMS aside from the wonderfully reproduced E 800 LMS from Ritter but collectors should be on the lookout for fakes of any kind as always.

The same seller has another locomotive, the SK 800 in green here with some "mis-matched" items:

https://rover.ebay.com/r...c%3Ag%3AeMYAAOSwXeJYGbd8

Some notes of interest (my opinion):

  • The box, inspection tag, and instruction sheet are from about 1947/48
  • The loco has had a visit to Ritter
  • The tender is newer, likely repainted and may be a reproduction
  • Internal parts date from Post-War and some are replicas from Ritter

Anyway back to the E 800 LMS, what an incredible loco, thanks for posting!

Listing seems to have been removed, I wonder why?

Both listings above appear active to me. The E 800 LMS was listed once before and this second listing was the relisted one.

All the sellers other items seem to be very reasonable but then the average price is about 10 Euros. Why there's even a banana wagon for 15 Euros.

And did they ask for duty on it?

And how about some photos of that Meccano set (if possible)?, I'd like to see it :-)

LMS express trains used to thunder past the end of my street when I was a kid in Edinburgh. It was my first favourite railroad. Later I switched my allegiance to the LNER because my uncle was a driver there. I am not tempted to bid for this lot.

Hi,
the E 800 LMS is an original one with no restoration.
I drove to the seller to inspect this loco and a R 700 A - sorry he didn't agree to my price proposal for E 800 LMS.Crying Crying
That is me with the loco:
UserPostedImage

Loco R 700 A was a fake....
Paul is correct with the green SK 800,
The collector is selling his whole collection, he has got quite a number of repainted locos and TWE / TW.....
Kind regards
Wolf

No duties on antique toys going into the US at that time.
Same deal a couple of years later when I brought back a pristine 1954 n°10 set from the UK, bought from Geoff Wright famous store in Henley on Thames.
I'll shoot a few pics of the 1927 N°7 set for Cookie.. but I'll start another thread as I consider this is hi-jacking on my part.
My apologies.
