Hello, I am brand new to Marklin Digital so please believe me if I say I know NOTHING about it. Confused

I recently inherited some Marklin Digital locos and I am trying to figure out what makes them tick.

The 36793 BR ER 20 Polizei loco has a Motorola chip in it, and I assume it is a decoder, marked as follows:

16F-684-1
0746
Oc4

Can someone enlighten me as to what type of decoder it is and what digital controllers (for want of a better term) is it compatible with. The locos came with 2 60653 controllers.

Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is a Motorola chip in it.

It has a decoder for the MM protocol. And any controller that supports the MM protocol should do.
The 60653 will work just fine.

Thanks for the info on the decoder and controller. BigGrin

I assumed it was a Motorola brand chip as it has the Motorola symbol on it. Unsure

The decoders I have lying before me have the Microchip Technology logo:

Hi Tom, you are right, I managed to get a closeup picture of the decoder. Sorry about the picture being upside down. It did not want to stay rotated.

OK, so I set up a test track today, hooked up two 60653s, a 60113 and a 6001, put the loco on the track and checked the memory locations on both 60653 mobile stations. I could not find the loco in any of the memory locations. There were some empty locations so with the help of the instruction manual I attempted to add the Polizei loco. Inside the loco box was a notation "add 25", I assumed for want of anything better that this was the address of the loco. The end result was that there was no response from the loco at all.

Can anyone tell me how to determine what the loco address is?

I think the default address is 24.
The current address can be anywhere between 1 and 255.
Just register the loco with any address, then go to "Change address" and write a new address into the loco. It doesn't matter what the current address is, you can set a new address at any time.

Select "MM programmable" when registering the loco.

Note that the MS2 has 11 loco positions on the screen, but can store a total of 40 locos in the internal loco list (if the firmware is not too old).
Use "From locolist" to see the complete list.

Tom

Thanks Tom, I will give this a try and post back, maybe tomorrow or Friday, after all it is Thanksgiving day here on Thursday. Mellow I was right when I said I know nothing about digital, it is all foreign to me. RollEyes
