Hi Guys.

First post on this massive forum BigGrin

Im working on a wallhugging US layout which will feature both the Big Boy, Challenger, Light Mikado and a couple of diesel engines.
The theme is 1950s to 1970s ish.

I also want some sort of small mining facility with a narrow gauge track which will be pulling some minecarts in and out of an small mine of some sort.
Not something big and space-requering mining compact. Just a small areal with a little mining action BigGrin

I have been looking at some Busch sets, and one of them looks like something i could use.
But... Is it US style enough?

https://www.busch-model....road-starter-set?c=15111

Suggestions on other sets are welcome Cool
Best Regards
Frank

Welcome to the form! As far as mining and logging lines went anything goes as long as it cheap enough to buy and operate. If you are not specifically modeling a area you should fine. Fred

Hi,
The Busch catalog in the link shows several small, narrow-gauge diesel locos or sets with appropriate mine cars. Any would be suitable for a mine anywhere. Roco offers several more authentic looking mine cars in HOe if that gauge suits. I'm not an American but I am a mining engineer and know their industry well.
Years ago Rivarossi, I think, used to offer a beautiful little steamer of the type used in the original construction of the Panama Canal and subsequently in early US open pit copper mines. I don't see it in their current catalog, but you might look here www.reduto.be/Rivarossi+Locomotive‎.
You can look here for some ideas for your mine https://www.google.be/se...amp;biw=1280&bih=932

Thanks 😀
Im not going for a specific area.
More or Less going for the general spirit of a great mainline with some sidetracks, including a little mining and stuff.

Well then i just need to decide on a loc with or without a roof on the cab :-)

Both look great, but the one without roof looks more in the spirit of small mining company :-)
Best Regards

I am more into the the H0f as it hits my vision of an 1950-1970s small mining buisness :-)
But i do like the H0e models from Roco.
Digital central would be great also. But H0e might be too small for that BigGrin

Hello guys :)

Well.. I have narrowd down the choices of small loc's for a small US Mining business to just 4 possible models.
But still cant decide Confused

Im thinking that the model will be very dirty and because of that, the color on the model doesnt matter too much :)
But what do you guys say?

Which model does say "US Mining train" the most ? Laugh

3 and 4 look like lego toys to me :)

I'd hate to drive a train with no roof so I'd say number 2

Hi Frank,

If you're looking for HOe American, you may like to take a look at Minitrains
As for the small mining loc, I prefer number 1.
