while replacing traction tires a piece of reverse unit chipped off with black wire connector. go figure loco no longer runs...can i solder the wire to the reverse unit to get loco to run one way? by that i mean can i connect the two black wires in pic to make loco roll for now?DSCN3884.JPG Is this a good candidate for digital upgrade? if so what parts would i need for "digitizing"? seems about the same amount of effort as finding and installing a new reverse unit! Up till now this loco is in really good condition.

Hi Thomas,

Can you just activate the reverser so that it makes contact with the other pad? You can do this manually too by just pushing the moving part back against the spring.

Replacing the reversing unit with a digital decoder is a great idea, but if there is anyone near your location who has done some digital conversions they probably have some reversing units spare that they can donate if you want to keep your loco original.

For myself I would take the opportunity to convert the loco to digital.

to convert the 3054 Br103 loco to digital you need a 60944 kit to convert the AC LFCM motor to a DC DCM motor, and then a suitable decoder, which could be the 60972 or 60982 MLD/3 decoders.

If you want sound it would be the 60977 or 60987 MSD/3 decoder for electric loco sounds.

To convert to digital you need a 90644 motor (rotor 8 Teeth) and a decoder like 60972 NO SOUND OR 60977 WITH SOUND OR THE DECODER FROM THE 60760 SET THE CHEEP SOLUTION
I think that 3054 if is in good general condition must be digitiged even with the cheep solution (40 E for 60944 and 20E FOR 60760 DEC 60 Euro total)

If you want sound may be is better to buy a later model of the E103 with sound plus metal body
