Hello,

Faller has its 70 year anniversary. (The company was founded in 1946.)

They have asked Ulrich Biene - well known in the world of Wiking model cars - to make an anniversary book for them.

And that is now in the shops for € 30 and looks quite interesting. (ISBN 978-3-667-10671-1).

The second pic is a 19 pages teaser of the book (PDF file).

Thanks Marco,

Looks like a heavy beast, postage probably as much as the book itself.

And dare I ask, did they brave to include any AMS this time around or are they still denying it ever happened?? LOL

Their 50th book was a disappointment in this regard, but it is still an interesting read of the history otherwise

@Steve / @Dave, my wild guess is German only and AMS is included, but not sure.
I don't have the book yet, it's in German shops for just a few days, shipping costs to Holland is also € 17,- .

I must admit that the books looks very promising, I love the chosen style and font and such.

I might be interested if an English version appears. I don't fancy paying 30 euro for a book I can't understand! BigGrin

I have a copy of a FALLER CATALOG from the late 60's or early 70's that I ordered from my
dealer in Germany. It was beautiful, way before its time. The catalog got me stuck with Marklin
and have been stuck since then.

Sure with they would publish in English!

I have also used the Volmer models, but FALLER, has always had a special place in my heart,
and my layout.

Hi Peter,

In Germany book-prices are regulated by a fixed book price agreement. Books are sold for the same price everywhere. Special offers are prohibited by the law. I will get my ordered FALLER-book tomorrow.

That is one of the reasons I have tried many times over the years to learn Deutsche. And for English speakers it's not all that difficult having similar 'roots' but when it gets technical or complex that's a whole 'nother story!

I always dreamed of marrying a lovely Fraulein who would teach me, total immersion but found the delightful native Nadine instead. BigGrin

Steve, I must say that I can't recommend marrying such a fraulein, my first wife was German and I had to pay 12 years alimony, one third of my salary. Cursing Cursing Cursing

And on one of bookshop websites is a very short summary of the book, it says that AMS is discussed too.

I thought price fixing was illegal in EU countries. Didn't we have a similar discussion recently about this referring to Marklin trying to stop discounting?

Hi,

I own books about antique toys in German, English, French, Italian, Danish and Swedish. I only speak two and half of these languages. But in the age of computer-translators it is not longer a really problem to find out what's written in that strange language. We have an international hobby: Books about JOUEF are French, about POCHER in Italian and about HORNBY (GB) are only available in English.

In Germany (and some others EU-countries) fixed prices are still used on tobacco-products, books (and similar printed matter), newspapers and pharmaceutical drugs which need a prescription.
