HI everyone,
it is with a heavy heart i come to this forum in the hopes of recovering the collection that i lost in a burglary in june of this year (2016). the burglary occurred in Moscow, Idaho and the collection was offered up for sale immediately afterwards in Craigslist for $300 by a guy named Karl.
suffice it to say that the collection is worth more than 20x the amount asked.
if anyone has a lead on it or has purchased the collection please contact me either thru this forum or directly thru my email address mmikeyy@hotmail.com

thank you in advance for any tips or leads anyone might have
mike

This is terrible news. It surprises me than someone today would steal model trains given how most younger people are not interested in the hobby, I would have thought a casual burglar would have ignored the "toys" and just gone for the TV, video games, etc. It does suggest that the thief knew about model trains or maybe even knew about your collection before hand. I hope that the police at least try to follow-up the Craiglist lead or is it too trivial a crime for them?

Kind regards,
Carim

It happened to me twice in Vancouver . Both times I was lucky to be insured . That only covers the value but it does not give peace of mind after having your space invaded. I never felt really safe in the house after that and did move a few months later. Eddie

Do you have list of the items stolen? In particular the locomotives? I suggest you keep an eye on E Bay and other sites that sell similar items. There is a strong relationship between law enforcement and web sites that crosses state lines and can very productive in recovering items. Check you insurance policy, it may cover some if not all the costs. Very sorry to hear about this but you left it late to use this forum to help you, if the robbery occurred in June, but you never know.

Sorry to hear about the robbery and your loss.

As already mentioned a list of key items is useful and maybe focus on any rarer items which are harder to come by, did you record the serial numbers of the newer locos?

I hope you will be successful in recovering the items taken

BR
Don't look back, your not heading that way.

I am sorry indeed to hear of the robbery, Mike.

What came of the attempted sale on Craigslist?

Did the police help in any way?

Please keep us updated on the progress.

Also, if you set out a list of the more important items stolen, I am thinking of the locos, perhaps we can try to look out for any such loco when we scout the net to buy locos. In this respect, some special identifying mark may help - like a scratch.

Good luck.

Silvano
