I have a bunch of the all metal coaches that either don't connect together, drift apart at points in layout or are low and strike 5202 turnouts when passing over. I have the nifty gauge piece that sits on track but for the life of me can not remember where I saw how to use and what to adjust when "out of whack":)) thhese are the '60's-70's era,HO,4026, 4052,4054,4064.4053 coaches with those old beasty couplers:))) telex? thanks in advance

With the tinplate coaches, I often find that the uncoupling shaft (see picture) is a bit too long and often catches the centre rail pukos, causing sparking, especially over turnouts. The solution is to chop a bit of it off.

The coupling gauge has an item number of 7001, and instructions on how to use it are attached.

Hey Thomas,
Chop it off. But be careful not to take too much. I like to use a nice new pair of electrical side cutters. Watch your eyes cause that thing goes flying!
I love the smell of smoke fluid in the morning .
