Sorry for dumb questions.
I know that for two rail operation, marklin wheel sets are no good as they short out - but what of the other way round? Can you run two rail wagons on K track without changing the wheels?. My fuddled brain also recalls a problem with the flange depths of non M wheels on M,K or C track.

There is a difference in the depth of the flanges and also the back-to-back measurement, which is the distance between the backs of the wheels on either side. Some wheel-sets allow for the wheels to be slid along the axles to correct this. The flange depth will only be a problem on some really ancient wheels, and sometimes if the depth is very little it may be easier to derail on turnouts. Some manufacturers manage to get a compromise wheel dimension which works for both 2-rail and 3-rail tracks. I have no problems with my Roco wheels, for instance, Others are more stringent, and in the case of my Lilliput wagons I always have to change the wheels to prevent derailing on turnouts. Piko are somewhere in between. Some wagons will be alright and others not. |

Most two-rail axles will work on Märklin, **providing you adjust the inner space** (distance between flanges) to 13.8 mm (vs 14.3 mm in 2 rail) The gauge to measure and adjust easily is here https://www.fohrmann.com/en/rail-gauge-h0.htmlI even have had success with RP 25 style reduced flange wheels, but only on well laid C-track; Hope this answers your question Cheers Edited by user 30 July 2016 07:13:41(UTC)

I have no major issues using RP-25 wheels on my C tracks, the only thing I have to do is to adjust the distance between wheels and voilá. |
