Last week a very extensive toy collection from Jerry and Nina Greene was auctioned off by Bertoia Auctions. Many of the items were rare Marklin pieces. The Bertoia website has the results online. The most expensive piece? A Marklin tunnel that sold for the paltry sum of $84,000. Well worth a look.

Wow- it finally sold off. I know for years it was offered as a package, but thats the problem- who would buy the whole thing as such? There was nothing left to collect, and I'm sure he would not have taken a lowball dealer bid for it all. He did the right thing in piecing it out. Seems like that wasn't the entire collection though?

A museum would have been a great home where all could go visit this, but alas...

I'm sure some of those items may well end up in museums just the same. Looking at some of the prices realized, I'm sorry I didn't bid on a few... but then I wouldn't have anything left for EuroWest (or next year's Maerklin Days) :)

Hello friends,

It was written in the auction catalog that part of the original Jerry Greene collection was actually sold to the New York Historical society museum. I'm not sure if they were sold or donated, but that's where some of the prized positions ended up. The bridge and the tunnel are 2 highlights, with very good prices. As others may have noticed the "rarities" went high and the more common trains went lower than normal.

Here you can see some pieces in their museum archive catalog:

Best wishes,

Thanks for the info- the auction items seemed like only a small part of the whole collection.

Too bad I missed the exhibition this winter...
