Class 260 diesel shunter in helper service assisting class 052 steam loco hauling freight near Freudenberg on the single track Siegburg–Olpe (or Agger Valley) railway, 1975.

I wonder if it was really being a helper or if it was there to provide indusi signalling that the steam loco may not have had?

I wouldn't have thought that a Br260 would add that much extra pulling power to a Br52?

Would that line really be such a struggle for a Br52?

On the website www.bahnen-wuppertal.de the German caption reads:

"Die 260 894 leistet der 052 626 bei einem schweren Güterzug die notwendige Unterstützung (14.August 1975)."

Translated: The 260 894 provides the 052 626 with the necessary support for a heavy freight train (August 14, 1975).
