Hi

I have some pairs of block signals (Hp) and distance signals (Vr) where the distance signals are 100% dedicated to the main signal.

I use the Viessmann 5210 signal modules - which support either a pair of independent signals, or a pair of signals that are on a single pole so that Dunkelschaltung can be achieved.

Now, I know I could use one module to drive the Hp and Vr signals as two separate signals, but I am wondering if I could save signal modules (and k83 inputs) by taking the outputs for a signal, and connecting both Hp and Vr to the same output. Both Hp and Vr signals must always be using the same aspect. This is all correct from a signalling and control point of view and now my question.... can the output of the signal module supply enough current to drive two signals?

The Hp signal can be either Hp0 or Hp1 and each aspect has one LED. The Viessmann signals are said to draw 14 to 20 mA.
The Vr signal in Vr0 and Vr1 aspects always use 2 LEDs and the signal modules provide separate outputs for all 4 LEDs. This is needed so that Vr2 (one green and one orange) can be displayed.

If I were to connect the Hp signal wires to one of the pair of Vr outputs I would now be driving two LEDs (each with their own resistor) in parallel from single outputs.

I would imagine that the signal module could handle 40mA per output - but the documentation does not state how much current may be drawn from it.

Has anyone connected multiple signals to the outputs for a single signal of the 5210 module?

I haven't tried to do exactly what you are doing but I have fed 2 Viessmann signal LED's from a single 5210 output without problems. The difficulty you face is that (if I understand your question correctly) you will be feeding THREE LED's from a single output (Red + 2 yellows or Green + 2 Greens). The Bk signal only shows 1 Red so there is a spare 'Red' output on the 5210 which you can use for the 2 Vr signal LED's but there is no spare output on the green side.

I have just tried to get a 5210 to energise the 'white' output at the same time as the green but it won't, so I can't offer a solution beyond suggesting that you give it a go. I have subjected my test 5210 to all sorts of misuse and it has managed to survive, so I don't think you will damage the unit if you experiment in this way, but it may simply not work.

Good luck!

Thanks Robert! Good to know two work from one output, I can use the Vr outputs to drive the Hp and Vr Pair so I think I can get away with two.

gn1 -> Vr gn1 and Hp gn
gn2 -> Vr gn2
ge1 -> Vr ge1 and Hp rt
ge2 -> Vr ge2

at least I can drive one signal pair from one side of the 5210 and do another pair on another one, using the other half to drive a 4 aspect signal.

Cool.

after installing two set of signals like this, I got confirmation from Viessmann that it is OK!
