I purchased this Marlin train at an estate sale but am having a hard time with getting more info on it. I did see some that go for a lot of money but they have a different bottom. I want to list it on ebay, but am not sure if or how to mention the different bottom. It measures about 8 inches long or so. Thanks for any help/info.

Take good detailed pictures, list it as what appears to be a Märklin 3063 with missing fuel tank and body screw, let the market decide what it is worth and you should do OK. They can go for a lot of money, yours has a lot of play wear, so probably will not bring as much, nice find though. here is some previous discussion on the model: Märklin 3063more 3063 Cheers, Gordon Edited by user 21 August 2015 20:55:44(UTC)

Thanks so much for the information. I paid $7.00 for it, so I will list it with good pics and anything over $10.00 is good! Thanks again!

Hello:
The loco is Marklin #3063 Luxembourg diesel loco produced between 1965-67 The bottom is not different. Your loco is missing the fuel tanks and screw.

This locomotive (3063.1) has been used a lot and is scratched all over, but you shouldn't sell it without the fuel tank. That's a cheap spare part you can buy on Ebay.de with a little luck. If you look up spare parts in the lists of similar locomotives on www.maerklin.de (Online shop), you can find out the product number of the missing screw as well. Once you have the screw and the tank, it will look better, and the chassis will be screwed to the body again. Do you know that in mint condition including an original light blue illustrated box and the original instruction manual, a 3063.1 has a value of 1,200 to 1,500 euros?? Koll says 1,000, but you can't get a perfect one at that price. The one you have is in bad condition, but as far as I can tell from your photos, it's an authentic 3063.1 from the 1960s. The chassis and the wheels were definitely made before 1973, as your picture reveals, so I think it's probably not fake. You can tell if this type of diesel was produced after 1973/74 because the wheels were modified back then, and there's a small hole in the die-cast metal part that holds the power-driven axles. Some collectors who can't afford a mint 3063 might actually want a cheap but authentic one, so I wouldn't sell it for 10 dollars. If you replace the tank and the screw, you'll probably get over 100 dollars for this in an Ebay auction, maybe even more if you sell it in December. Obviously, this only applies if the locomotive works, so you should test it, clean the motor and the cogwheels, replace the coals, and oil it a little. Best regards and good luck! Mark |

I like Märklin items produced in the 1960s or early '70s, but also digital locos & current rolling stock. |

Thanks for the info, Mark, but I already listed it and started it at $10.00. I appreciate your info, but I know so little about these items that I wouldn't even know how to put on a fuel tank. I put more pics of it on ebay, so someone buying it can assess what it needs and maybe buy those parts themselves.

Just a quick comment. The market is speaking and the loco is already at over $110 with the missing tanks and screw noted and another couple days to go... Great deal for $7!
