The picture will not be publishe only offered for a download ) But don't worry, as long as it is reported somewhere we stay informed. You are from the Netherlands. I tell you, time by time, I send an e-mail to Maerklin telling them they shall correct their Maerklin database website. Because on the German website version you find a strange mixture of German and Dutch language. So I am not astonished about this "old" Maerklin TV version. Thanks but it does not work. Anyway I can see this video over the Maerklin website for the Nederlands. Under "Nieuws" this message comes up "Märklin TV Deze informatie vindt u op de Duitse of Engelse Märklin website. Klik op de taal van uw keuze." And now (it is no joke) press "Duitse" the video TV #99 is shown. Pressing "Engelse" the video #100 starts running. Anyway it is strange and it keeps strange.

When you look at the whole production across all gauges it must be a massive job and undertaking and maybe Märklin has achieved the turning point by producing excellent and trouble free models all you have to find is deep pockets

Marklin TV episode 107 German No sign of Episode 106 in English as yet, let alone episode 107. Marklin are getting a bit slack! I did notice in this episode that Wolfrad Bächle is looking a lot more grey in his hair colour - I saw him at the IMA in 2019, he got on the bus I was on, said 'Hello' to me and sat further down the bus along with some other Marklin folks. He looked much darker then!

"Marklin are getting a bit slack!"
I try to remind myself that I am lucky Marklin (or any foreign to me company) caters to the English audience. I am lucky to have English as my native tongue and so can be lazy and not bilingual. But I hate to lose something I am used to and feel I have paid for. Not only have Marlin been tardy with translations but Insider content as well. Here in the US we just received our 2020-6 packages last week. Marklin USA was forced to send out email forms for our club models etc. We did not have the chance to qualify for the raffles and it becomes too late to apply for the trips (not a factor this year anyway). And when my replacement 88889 also suffered from factory defect it was sent back for repair, last August. The loco has still not been returned and I know a fellow via this thread in England who had his fixed and returned last November I think. I'm not sure the above rant qualifies as "News From Marklin and others" but to me, right now, the news is that the US is no longer being supported in a normal way.

And following on from the discussion in the NI thread, (which was actually about the 194) at 3:11 in the video the CAD cross section shows only one axle at each end of the loco is driven ... . I am pretty sure i saw the same thing in the New items Presentation video for the 194, so marklin is really getting cheap.

Things are going my way again! Thank you for Episode 106 in English, 107 can't be far behind? And my repaired 88889 is in the US mail, I owe Marklin an apology there, apparently my US dealer has had that loco sitting in the US for a month, they forgot to send it back to me! Plus you have to admit the Z scale club offering for 2021 is superb ;)

Please, don’t take a opinion based with a part of a CAD in a short video on youtube. Read the explain on Marklin Database: Both outer driving wheels in each truck powered using cardan shafts. In the CAD we can see the section with some parts of the traction, the items that are in foront of or behind we can’t see it... the OBB krok takes the same number of wheel drive... |

Traduction from German To english; Antrieb auf jeweils zwei Achsen je Treibgestell. Drive on two axles per driving frame. And if I read in Spanish directly form MarklinDatebank: Cada locomotora cuenta con tracción en ambas ruedas motrices exteriores en cada bogie I understand 4 axels! |

The Google translation of the German text gives a much better rendition - 'Drive on two axles per drive frame.' Translation of the Spanish text isn't good, it gives 'Each locomotive has traction on both outer drive wheels on each bogie.' While in German and Spanish the terms 'wheel' and 'axle' may be interchangable, in English they mean two different things. If anything it proves a better translation is needed from Marklin. In the description for 39173 (BR103 in IC livery) we have 'Two axles in each truck powered using cardan shafts. ' - much better! So it seems in the BR194 that there are 4 driven axles, 2 for each bogie

That is definitely what the CAD cross section shows, and I would believe that over any marketing description, as the CAD drawing is what actually gets made, not some interpretation by a non-technical marketing person. The CAD diagram for the OBB croc shows only the inner axle of each bogie being driven. I'll have to have another look at the equivalent CAD cross section for the 194, but from memory it showed only the outermost axle of each bogie being driven. [edit] Have now searched the New Items video and the relevant CAD picture at 20:23 shows only the outer axle on each bogie of the 194 being driven. [/edit]

I watched the video. If you look at the left hand truck/bogie you can see all the spur gear that connect the axles as they strip off the layers So all axles are driven, but the cardan shafts only connect to the two outside axles. This is no different than most models with a central motor where cardan shafts connect to a gear tower that then uses spur gears to transmit the power to the individual axles, i.e., the Hobby Traxx series.

Cheers, Roger Ah, yes, I see, but check very carefully, it doesn't show a gear on the central axle, only the outer two axles of the bogie. The string of gears 'leaps' over the central axle.

The croc has driveshafts so all wheels are powered. Probably traction tires on the directly driven wheels allowing some slippage on the rod driven wheels to prevent binding. |
