Hi folks,
I'm very pleased to see that there has recently been a spate of new toolings from Marklin for the big steamers. I am refering to locos with seperate tender only here. We could talk about tank engines in a different thread. I wonder which we will be treated to next?
As far as I can remember, in the last 10 years or so we have seen new toolings for the following. I've probably made a few mistakes in my list. Please feel free to correct me!
Br01 Br03 - old boiler Br03 - new boiler Br03.10 - new boiler Br05 - streamlined Br05 - un-streamlined Br18.3 Br23 Br24 Br38.10-40 (P8) Br39.0-2 Br41 - old boiler Br41 - new boiler Br042 (Br41 oil) Br45 Br50 Br50.40 - Franco-Crosti boiler Br56.2-8 (G8.1) Br58.10-21 (G12)
The current offerings of the following are still AFAIK the old tooling, though some are from the 1990s and are really quite good by today's standards.

Hi Ray, thanks for that rather comprehensive list! I guess BR 42.90 Franco Crosti is missing in the last 10 year's (let's say since 2000) list. Also I think BR 24 is not a competely new tooling introduced in 2000s (please someone correct me if I wrong), just change of the older tooling took place. As for the future expectations: - change of the tooling for existing new moulds - newer BR 50 without front skirting and with cab tender, more BR 03s and BR 50s with Wagner deflectors in Era II. Most expected - BR 52 using BR 50 new tooling (if possible); - new tooling for the locomotives from your second list - BR 01.10 (+streamlined version), BR 03 streamlined and so on. I'm trying to think realistic. Best regards, Andrey

The Br42.90 is also a modified Br50. I'll change the list to reflect the right numbers.
I'm not sure you're right about the Br24. The new tooling looks significantly different to the old 3003. It is much more detailed and has a can motor instead of the old SFCM motor. Is there anyone who has both and who can confirm this?

3003 and 3624x are completely different. I have both. 3003 uses the coffee grinder and 3624x uses a can motor, besides other significant differences. The tires are the only item identical to both. |
Matt Era 3 DB lokos, coaches and freight cars from across Europe But I do have the obligatory (six) SBB Krocs ECoS 50200, all FX and MFX decoders replaced with ESU V4s, operated in DCC-RailCom+ with ABC brake control. With the exception of the passenger wagens with Marklin current conducting couplers, all close couplers have been replaced with Roco 40397. |

I think there will be a new BR 44 someday. They never made a BR 42 AFAIK, but a BR 44 will have more potential buyers than a BR 42. |

Stephen, that looks about right to me, but to be 100% sure i'd have to go back and check the catalogues.
The only correction I might make at this point is that I believe that the Br44 of 1996 was a new tooling, not a part new tooling, as it is completely different from the earlier Br44 from 1950s.
