I decided to document the process I use for installing the cabling from the s88 points back to the actual s88 modules...

Dale,

Thanks for sharing this thread.
I also like to use multi-stranded wire, mostly of the 8-strand type, for connecting multiple connections.

I have generally found it painful to work upside down underneath the board trying to connect wires to k83 decoders and s88 feedback, so in my next layout I shall bring all the wiring to a place which is accessible either on a pull-out drawer or on a hinge flap system where I don't have to bend upside down to connect the wiring.LOL LOL

Regards,
John

Hi Dale,

Thank you for the documentation of the S88 feedback connection.

Cheers

Hi All,

I did it as follows:

I use current detection exclusively, this allows me to combine the feed wire to the track section and the feedback wire into one, so that saved me half of the wiring.
To do that I built small detection circuits. 2 diodes, 1 resistor and 1 transistor per port.

The connection to the track is then also with a network cable, like Dale did, or individual wires, depending on the distance and location of the track.

Best regards,
Gregor

Nice neat job Gregor.
I do not feed separate power to each track though. Not needed for digital.

John,
yes I have found that running bus wires and the quick connectors great. I have no intention of trying to make connections upside down. Some guys try to solder under there. Nope, not me!

Here is a page on the tap splices I use.... http://layout.mixmox.com/1/20020224Wiretaps

You are right. But I decided to have an individual connection point to every track section available at the circuit board for future flexibility. For instance to change what tracks are connected to which booster (in case of booster overload). Or to add train detection to a track section where originally there is none.

best regards,
Gregor

I have added some new images showing how to 'break into' the cable along its run....
