I am keen to know the opinions of others on the Noch ballast (item 99150). I previously used the Merkur Styroplast ballast for K-track and have been very happy with it. Since Noch bought Merkur they brought out their own ballast product and they seem to have subsequently dropped the Merkur line. I ordered a 5m roll of the Noch 99150 and indeed the Märklin flex track fits in very nicely. - The ballast is very soft (too soft??)
- The color is very light (newly ballasted track look).
- It seems very fliexible.
I have not yet installed it and that step is coming up soon. I will probably use my role for the single line S-Bahn track that comes off the main line. If you have used the Noch Mössmer Schaumstoffgleisbettung, are you happy with it? Has it lasted well ? What problems (if any) have you encountered? |

Hello Dale, I used the Mössmer (marklin fit) foam roadbed extensively when I built my first layout in the 1980's. By the time I started to build my current new layout (in another house) in the late 1990's all the foam had started to crumble away!! This does seem to happen to many foam products in time. I found some of this old stuff in my "bits and pieces" boxes and you can see what I mean by the images below: So, in building my current layout I used merkur which is just fantastic for lots of reasons that have been posted on this forum before : In the interim merkur seemed not available but recently "surfaced" and as noted not long ago on this forum, merkur can be bought through lokshop : http://shop.lokshop.de/i...jf7d00ookovmn89dju0jo170or at merkur's own website : http://www.merkur-styrop...erklin-H0:::46_72:2.htmlRegards, PJ

Thanks PJ,
I too have loved the Merkur products and am reusing most of mine after having to dismantle my first layout. I bought this role of ballast when I though I would not be able to get more Merkur but I suspect I will need to stick to the Merkur product line. So tempting to roll out 5m of this ballast and get that track done though!
Thanks for the images too much appreciated.
