On another note, over the past few decades, major North American Railroads have been selling surplus locomotives and replacing the older locomotives with newer ones. This has led to a glut of older locomotives, many still painted in the colours of the original operator, falling into the hands of smaller operators, short lines and leasing companies. Those locomotives have been reappearing all over the continent and farther afield as well.
Thus, since the 1990s, it can be pretty common to see unusual consists made up of locomotives in varied liveries, but being operated by a specific railroad. The famous Megantic Oil Train Accident involved former BN and other diesels being used by the Montreal Maine Atlantic, which had taken over former CP trackage and was using that line to transport Bakken oil to St John NB for refining. It also happens that major railways requiring additional power, will lease or rent equipment from other railroads or brokers (leasing companies) to meet short term needs.

It is also common to find locomotives in liveries of acquired roads being used on the network of the main company, such as Soo Line material on CP lines, BC Rail on CN and so on. D&H, which was acquired by CP, parts of which were later sold to Norfolk Southern, so locomotives with D&H markings can occasionally be found on the CP USA route but also on the NS part of the former route.

The closest equivalent in Europe today would be the MRCE/Dispolok/AngelTrains/CB Rail lease locomotives found in most European countries today, some labelled for the national railways and others by private or out of country operators.

Regards

Mike C

Interesting! The Re421 panto is down, not contributing traction.

Thanks Ak for showing us these variable consists, which are very typical of European railways.

HGK is an interesting logistics company, with many different parts, connections and operations all over Europe.
It is centred on the port operations in Cologne, the parent company is Häfen und Güterverkehr Köln AG (HGK).
HGK

The first loco in the photo is definitely HGK, and possibly the third which may be the BR 185 series.
Maerklin did produce a model of this one showing the HGK logo, leased by HGK from MRCE (Mitsui Rail Capital Europe).
Maerklin #36832.
MRCE HGK BR185

Maerklin have been consistent in making models of HGK vehicles.
Some that I know of:
The 26571 trainset from 2012 had the Märklin 26571 HVLE loco and VTG Falns wagons showing the HGK logo.
The Insider 2018 wagon 48168 is a HGK vehicle, even though the logo is shown very small as to be almost unreadable..
37630 from 2012 is a double MAK Typ DE 1002 locomotive used in the docks and yards at Cologne for making up trains.
