I am trying to understand how the turnouts can be controlled digitally and I have the following question:
Can the turnouts be controlled directly from the CS2 or they still require the use of k83 decoder, assuming that they are equipped with the corresponding digital decoders e.g. 74465?

The 74465 replaces the k83 in your setup.
So if you have the 74465 and the corresponding motor in your turnout, this is all you need to control them digitally.

Thanks, that's what I suspected.

I am trying to follow Marklin's book "Controlling, signaling, running) but it is so poorly written that it creates more questions that answers.

I wonder why they do not hire an English speaking writer to edit the book to make it more understandable. It seems that they just used Google to translate from the German edition :(

This is not only in manuals, but in pretty much all Marklin documentation, catalogs and magazines. Makes me laugh sometimes!

Hi s_christos,

K83 decoder can be connected upto 4 turnouts with turnout mechanism (link) and lots of wiring needed - cheap way.

Expensive way: mechanism/motor + decoder #1 or decoder #2 (depends on turnout: two or three-way)

Good luck!:)
