Hello all,
Recently it was discussed in another thread that the 32VA analog transformers 6646 (120v) and 6647 (230v) have been discontinued at Marklin. I understand that 6647 has been replaced with the current model, 66470.
I hope that Marklin will also produce a 66460 to replace 6646. I have written an email to them asking if there are any plans to do so (at Tom's good suggestion). If I receive anything, I will post it here. If you feel the same as me, feel free to contact them.
This whole development builds a few questions in my mind:
-Does anyone know if 66470 improves on the design fault in 6646/6647 where the wire attached to the control knob (internally) would fail, resulting in dead spots or no control from the control knob?
-Are there any alternative analog transformers available from other vendors that will drive Marklin AC trans and are also "decoder safe"?
I hope that this isn't the end of analog. I know digital is the often preferred control method, and that is fine. I only hope Marklin still produce something that will allow analog control, and continue to support analog control in digital decoders. The starter sets these days, even with the basic IR control are all digital. So to me, it seems a bit dim. At worst, I guess I'll be hunting 6627 trafos on ebay :)
