Hi

Having browsed this forum extensively wink, I see that a number of you have succesfully done conversions to digital using the Hamo permanent magnet. I'm now looking at doing the same (I have a number of older locos where the value does not justify the cost of a 6090x conversion set).

Questions:

Can you confirm that it generally works OK for LFCM, but SFCM can turn out either good or bad?

What decoders did you use? For those of you who have used different decoders, which one do you prefer?

Thanks!
Richard

Hi Richard, I have a couple SFCM Loks with Hamo magnets, I've installed Lenz130 decoders and they work ok.
In the past, I've had several LFCM Loks with Lenz130 working ok too, but now I have all of them converted to DC motors with the 60904 motor parts, however I've kept the Lenz130 decoders and they work fine.

Funny,
I've also had success with some LE130, which are no longer produced. And DCC of course.

Nowadays I would try a LokPilot, as the feedback circuit characgteristrics is programmable; however, I have not done any conversion for years.

I did a few with the Lenz 930 and the SFCM and LFCM's. The decoder was OK, but I was never satisfied with the perfomance of the 3 pole motor in DC. For some reason it seems to run smooter in AC. As soon as you convert it it gets jerky. I have replaced them with 60903 or 60904 kits. LokPilot is a nice device, but I have no experience with one with a 3 pole motor. I always convert to 5 pole when I do a conversion.

I personally have tried it a few times, with more than one different decoders, the Lenz 130 worked best. But I consider the 60903,60904 to be a better and much smoother solution.
