I am proud newbie!!
Just got my first marklin sets: 29478 and 78478. I am very excited and want to learn more. I have lots of questions such as: a) can I add traffic lights and control them? b) can I change tracks automatically? c) can I add different color tracks, i notice that there are many different types d) when buying extras how can i make sure that they are contemporaneous to my train?
and so many more.
So my first big question, is there any FAQ or reference book for beginners?
Thanks in advance.

But items from late era V will also look OK (in my humble opinion). If you want a steamer, you can run that as a museum train. |

PA Nice set, I would like to purchase one also, when the prices are a little bit down If I were you, I would purchase also another train by item number 37736, combined with 29478+78478 that's would be a great set of DB Regio b) can I change tracks automatically? yes, using computer controlled, but you need CS2 60215 or any other equivalent controller from other vendor. c) can I add different color tracks color tracks? I saw on ebay only red C track, but I forget the item number. I guess it is part of a set. Enjoy your Maerklin, and welcome to the forum! Cheers, Sony

Thanks for all the welcome messages.
Here is my plan: a) buy tracks and more tracks b) buy a Era I or Era II train (i just love them) and it will be a museum item in a contemporaneous track, as Tom suggested. c) expand then with era VI items
I am trying to find an How to post for adding lights and track changer, any advice?
Thanks

Thanks Hi Palves, As far as track my recommendation is c-track, buy new c-track dont buy used. The older c-track from years 1997-1999 were defective. The plastic formula at the factory wasn't correct. After a couple years the track joint would start snapping off, when taken apart. Even though marklin advertised it as durable and easy for kids to play with. For switches you can install a motor, decoder, and lantern. The motor will allow you turn electronically change the switch direction using a switch box item number #(72730). The decoder will allow you to digitally control the switch using a mobile station or central station unit. The lantern is not necessary for switch operation, but does give a realistic look. Heres an item number a set of 1 decoder, 1 motor, 1 lantern(74445). I dont know to much about signals but i know they can be digitally controlled or manuelly controled using a signal box item#(72750). Can't wait to see pictures of your new purchases!! Hope This Helped, Daniel |

To answer your question, Marklin has 2 books available for sale through your Marklin dealer - Marklin 07421 Controlling Switching Running Electrical Manual, which covers wiring and control of solenoid devices (turnouts, signals, etc) and the Marklin 03402 H0 Signal Book which covers the use of signals and block control. You can also find on the Marklin USA website ( http://www.marklin.com/tech/) older manuals for download which may cover some of the information you are wanting.

Hi,
Welcome. You may also take a look at the catalogue. In it you find some useful information about Märklin products, including track systems and signals. If you are starting, C track in grey is the way to go. About signals, I suggest you look at what exist (in the catalogue, for example), but maybe better wait until the end of January because at that time Märklin is expected to do some anouncements and in these maybe a new signal system.
In Portugal you have 2 great shops for Märklin: Minitrem (in the north) and ComboiosElectricos.com (in the south).

Best regards, Miguel
