Hello everyone:
Has it ever been documented if the Seuthe or similar smoke fluids eventually damage the paint finish on the steam locomotives? I have noticed that the fluid leaves an oily or greasy residue on the paint, around the funnel area, but it usually evaporates without leaving a trace. Also, how do you prevent the smoke generator from "spattering" fluid around, which is actually the reason why it falls on the locomotive's body? Greetings from Montreal,

hello,
Make sure drop of fluid four/five time on 7226 unit and four drop on 72270.Dont drop more than four or five on unit or it will blow fluid out of unit onto body. |

Hi,
I have been known to slightly miss the funnel when dripping in the smoke fluid... However, my steamers with smoke show no signs of paint peeling etc. because of this. The fluid just evaporates without a trace, luckily.

And because the smoke tube is from metal. It can not melt. And there will be not much loss of paint. And after a lot a years it will weather nicely.

Hi Bernhard,
If you would like to fill the smoke generator in an easier way. Just use a cyringe, it makes you can hardly miss!
I've got one other question, a simple law in physics says that what goes up, must come down. Does anyone have the experience that after using a smoke generator for a longer while the environment get's a very thin oil film over it?

Hi Sander, You are right, I should use a syringe to inject the fluid. I now use an 'eye dropper'. On my dark attic it is easy to miss the funnel with this blunt instrument. I would not expect an oil film on anything after using smoke fluid as it evaporates quickly without residue. IHMO there are no oily ingredients in the fluid. It is more like a solvent and I use it as such to clean my tracks. It removes black gunk from the rails quite well . Bernhard |
