I am in the process of upgrading to a mobile station 2(60653), from the infrared Marklin starter set controller. I ordered the 60113 track connector, and a 120V 60VA 60055 transformer for power. I went to the larger transformer, due to not thinking that the starter set 18va transformer would handle my eventual layout. Based on some forum reading, I really haven't seen any posts that indicate whether or not the 60055 transformer is the proper item to use with the mobile station 2. Any opinions out there?? Thanks!

Dave -- thanks for your reply. Do you use the same transformer to power turnouts, lights or other accessories? I would think that the transformer would have sufficient capacity, but most of the forum posts talk about supplying power to the accessories from a separate transformer.

A connection between rail and transformer will fry your track connection box.
Therefore the transformer cannot be used to power some accessories (e.g. rail road crossings).

If you are using C track you can use item # 74460 under the turnouts. There is plenty of power for a small starter layout. I have 4 switches on my test track, and so far have no problems running up to 3 locomotives.Cool

My layout is going to be on a Noch 81710 preform, so there will be limited turnouts, and my goal was to have everything controlled via digital, so I will be using the 74460s on the turnouts. I'll need to do more research (on this site), to make sure I understand the limitations on layout wiring. Thanks...

Check out the Marklin 74445 item, it includes the switch motor, didital unit and a lantern.

Everything fits under the roadbed and you have 256 codes to choose for your switches.
