This wagon works really well cleaning Z gauge track, I saturate the cloth with cleaning fluid and then just tow it around the track. If you don’t have traction tyres, use a couple of your heaviest diesel locos etc. The wagon is filled with a block of lead. You will need to fine tune the thickness of sponge (Wettex or similar) and then wrap this with a piece of silver polishing cloth or something similar. Jon11 attached the following image(s): |

Thanks. I use one of those 86501 track cleaning wagons, which works quite well with some lead sinkers added. To cope with the extra weight and the drag of the pad I sandwich it between two Br260s (8864), long hoods facing outwards. That makes it look Heavy Duty and justifies having more than one Br260 ;-)
By cleaning fluid do you mean dry cleaning fluid? I used to use that, but have found that metho works just as well. |

I use metho and some old SR24. Both work well. It's a long time since I got the SR24, don't know if it still exist, but I have enough till I pop off. |

Great idea, what type of cleaning fluid do you use ? cleaning for windows ?
Märklin has a special cleaning-waggon, it costs about 60EUR and it's worthless, it is to light and it derails. Making your own waggon is better.

I've got one of those cleaning wagons, which I weigh down with lead sinkers. To cope with the extra weight I put an 8864 at each end. It works and looks cool! |
