I just can't find the 5206 curves anywhere - I need to use them as reverse curves on my 5202 turnouts, so yesterday out came my trusty Dremel Stylus grinder/cutter, marked off the distance I needed to cut off on some spare 5200 curves, and after careful cutting and filing, and inserting rail joiners, hey presto, I have 2 much needed 5206 curves!
Joe.....with sore ears from all those blaring vuvuzelas round about us!!

Joe - Try this for size.

I have bought from Henk in the past and his service and products are very good. He currently has 73 * 5206, priced at €1.95 each. His postage is a wee bit steep, but my goods arrived in Scotland from him in Belgium extremely well packaged. Good luck. Alan.

thanx everyone - that is a good price (about equal to what I would pay here in South Africa for general curves/straights; the problem is getting it to Africa - the postage/packaging is horrendously expensive, hence my resorting to making my own track pieces - I now have 4 pieces made up, all working and looking good.
thanks so much
Joe

Dremel with a good metal cutting disk does wonders for any size track (straight or curved) to fit any of your stub track needs! Even if you come up with an odd size piece that's not made by Marklin.

Märklin doesn't seem to stress how important the curve section 5206 is for parallel operation in conjunction with the 5100 series. A lot less space is wasted with them and many of the turn-outs and cross-overs are based on that arc. Unfortunately, you found out too late the opportunities to obtain them regularly arise on eBay.

Can I use 6 x 5206 tracks together with 1 x 5200 to make a 180° curve? Also what straight sections would I need to make the radius equivalent to 6 x 5200 tracks?
I ask because it appears to me for some unknown reasons that the the radius of 5206 is marginally smaller than the radius of the 5200 tracks because 2.5 x 5200 is slightly longer than 3 x 5206 tracks... Has anyone got some more information on the differences between 5206 and 5200?

Hi,

The radius is the same for 5200 and 5206 and equals 437.4 mm.
The angle of the 5206 is 24° and 17' (minutes). So if you combine 6 of them with 1x 5200 you reach 175° and 42', so not the full half circle of 180°.

The only purpose of the 5206 is to create a distance of 77.4 mm between two parallel tracks using a 5202 turnout.

Best regards,
Gregor

Gregor, thanks for the clarification,
My confusion was because I have seen the Marklin 5206 track described as a "5/6 Curve" (i.e. 25°), however, as you explained the 5206 is in fact only 24° and 17'.
Someone on Ebay is selling 23 of the 5206 tracks, but besides using them with the 5202 points, I can't see the usefulness of having 23 them...

Two 5206's also complete the 3-way M turnout 5214 for the 77.4mm track spacing.
