I've not done much collecting lately and I was amazed at the going prices on Ebay today! I snagged up a mint condition 3039.1 E10 for 62! Auctions I did not bid on: a Belgian NOHAB went for 78 and an old 3027 for 83! And all were in good condition and with box.

That explains how I could win a 3174 Nohab for $61.

It's amazing that you can scoop up a Nohab in good condition for a price like that - that is an absolutely incredible deal. No idea if it will continue to drop - I've been out of the game for quite a while and have not seen this trend develop.

The 3039 that I won is Ebay number 190273017346. Here are some photos of it:

UserPostedImage

That thing is in immaculate condition. The last time I found a 3039 as neat as this one, it costed 110 euros on average.

And how about this one, Ebay number 230313801356 which I was stupid enough NOT to bid on:

UserPostedImage

Note that this lot contains a 4616 wagon with Mannesmann tube, with the original box. That model alone should fetch close to 100 euros. This whole lot, all four wagons together, sold for 38,27!!!!!!

I think at least part of it is do the the amount of stuff people are selling pre holiday; thinking its the best time of year to sell.

While it is true in that there are plenty of xmas tree collectors looking, I don't think they make a difference unless you are selling track and start set type material. Anything else i just think floods the market.

I've been buying a lot not only because of pricing, but because all of a sudden stuff you never see for sale (unless you have access to germany ebay) is popping up in the states. Random bits like 1980's era passenger cars they only made for a year, and things of the like.

I picked up a few 4180 passenger cars, (been trying to make a train of them forever) a few more 4747 Elf Tank Cars, a 3477 Zeppelin and some cheap HAG cars...

I don't believe this....

A 4618 Tiefladewagen with the box, not the transformer. With original red box. Ebay number 110326054860. I just won it. For 5 euros and 47 cents.....

I'm on a roll here. Not one but two 4610's in mint condition, with box, for 3 euros each.

A 4605 for E10,06.

I got these from the same seller, so that saves some shipping costs.

I too have been off the market for a while, but it looks like I need to get back in. I am a NOHAB freak, as you may know, and have most of the ones I was looking for, but at the prices mentioned, it's time to get some duplicates. Thanks for the heads-up guys.

The last one so far, I paid a bit more for this one but it is worth it:

UserPostedImage

A 4515 Nierderbordwagen with two Mercedes trucks, in immaculate condition. That's pretty rare. KOLL says anywhere between 80 and 100 euros, I payed 32 euros.

I could shoot myself for not bidding on this one and that one. Those coaches are very old, very beautiful and they sold for next to nothing.

I was offered, from official M dealer, GT 2 X 4/4 37964, for US$500.
Declined as I would like 37962.

To be fair it was partially as a result of some other purchases. I
was delighted to get my snowy railbus for US$ 299.00, this also from
an M dealer.

Jeremy.

I saw a brand new 1 Gauge V100 loco from a starter set sell this week for 212 USD. I think maybe I should have bid on it, but I restrained myself.

Of course the killer for us here is postage, and the declining NZD, although the USD has dropped a bit in the last few days.

well, maybe another bubble has exploded....not so noisy as the explosion of many other bubbles around and the decrease began some years ago from now. i would say, second hand prices have moved into the right direction and maybe the number of collectors has gone down too and/or they are not more that 'hungry' as they have been 15 years from now.
but in turn this will mean not so many sales to collectors in the future 'first hand' from maerklin to them, so their customer basis is further eroding...

For some bad reason I did not bid on this (the reason being I expected it to go quite high):

UserPostedImage

Two Säurebehälterwagen, one Märklin, one Primex. The Märklin version (model number 4657) is quite rare and rather valuable. Yet this Ebay auction ended at a price of EUR 13,70..... Some lucky guy, somewhere bought these two for less than 14 euros....

Please excuse my ignorance Gents,
Apart from the obvious, what's the difference between a 4605 in a red box & a 4605 in an Std Marklin box?

The blue one is a marklin item, the red one is from the budget "primex" range. Looks like it didn't get all the small detailing on it.

The red box is a Primex box and presumably the wagon is also.

Primex was a Marklin brand that sold cheaper versions of some Marklin items - generally they have less detail.

I can find no record of a 4605 made by Primex, so I am assuming the two previous replies haven't read your question properly.

The 4605 is an SBB K3 covered wagon with a brake-man's cabin at one end. This wagon was in the Marklin range for many years, and over those years the style and colour of box varied, so I wouldn't say there is a "standard" Marklin box. There are some boxes that are mainly red or orange and some that are light blue, and the more recent ones in blue and white. The wagon itself was sometimes made in brown and sometimes in grey.

I have the brown version and it came in a red box.

Hello,

About Märklin boxes you have an interesting page that is writen in German language, but you can easily get an idea when you scroll down.

The box shown in Oscar's picture is a Primex box not a red Marklin one, which is what I thought Gramps was referring to. That's what happens when you resurrect an eleven year old thread and post a question in it that has no relation to the rest of the thread.

The box has the number 4587 on it.

https://www.lokmuseum.de/showart...gen&Seite=1&SID=

There probably won't be any difference if any between a 4605 in a red box or a 4605 in a blue box, unless there were some minor variations. Kolls will tell you that information.

I'm thinking maybe topics should get locked automatically if there have been no posts in a certain time frame, a year maybe?

I also find it frustrating when old topics are resurrected. The information on them is usually very much out of date, and in some cases the posters in that thread may have left the forum, or even passed away. I see posts above from John Black and Jeremy Palmer, both ex-members I remember with fondness!
