Hi1 I am planning to upgrade my Re 421 Cargo loco from #29481 starter set with warm white beam lights, similar to those on the new #37356.
I am able to find the part number for white lights by going into the parts list for #37356. However, I am not quite sure what needs to be done to get the beam lights. Do I need to change the mtc PCB of my loco to get the beam lights or should I just change the decoder fitted on the loco. I would truly appreciate any inputs that you can provide in this regard. Thanks a bunch in advance.
regards, Rajnish

Hi,
Rajnish, do you know if the new LED PCB comes with the red LED's?
Cem.
___________
Hi! Cem, The LED PCB on #37356 does not come with Red LEDs for rear lights. It only has warm white headlights/ rear-lights with beam light switching. The part number for warm white LED PCB is #137084
Cheers,
Rajnish

Please see my response to Cem. I am still waiting for Lutz' detailed response. He has kindly agreed to share with me and other fellow members on the forum the process for adding the beam light capability to Re 4/4II models. He will be posting the detailed approach for upgrading the Re 4/4II models in a separate article on the forum soon for the benefit of everyone.
Thank you so much Lutz for being so helpful in sharing your expertise. I must say that you have been one of the most helpful members when it comes to sharing technical tips on how to improve the functional capabiities of existing models.
regards,
Rajnish

There has already been some information about this posted on the Swiss Hag Forum and on the German Stummi Forum too.
http://www.forum.hag-info.ch/in...95982b56d1affe5c5b012afd
So far, the LED unit exists in four variants:
1) Yellow LEDS - No Long Distance HL (3434, 34341, 3734, 34344, 34345, 26534)
2) Yellow LEDS - Long Distance HL (37344, 29859, 37345, 29481)
3) Yellow LEDS - LD HL & Red LEDs (37343)
4) White LEDs - Long Distance HL (37342, 37356)
(Maerklin Spare Part Number
137084
)
Maerklin has not yet released a model with bright white LEDs and red taillights, although I am looking forward to one that has some additional features, like dual red LEDs, switchable to single red or white. I would also like to see Maerklin go back to milling the light channel/lens so that the light beam is concentrated in front and not diffused like the recent models have been.
If you are planning to convert older loks from yellow LEDs to the new bright white LEDs, you may want to wait a little while and see if there are any changes to the lok coming with the Re 10/10 Set and other possible future models.
I am sure that Maerklin or Lutz can provide the details on what if anything else needs to be changed

Mike C

I swapped the shells from my 37343 with my 37344. This way, I have a red Re 4/4II with the red taillight which I use with Lima EWI NPZ coaches and one of my RailTop BDts.
When the lok is pushing the consist, I turn the lights off and run with just the red LED at the rear of the train.
My 37343 Re 4/4II TEE is not used for push-pull operations as it pulls my Maerklin, Roco or Lima TEE coaches. For that reason, I decided that making the switch was worth it.
The new 37356 will also be performing similar duties, except that it's consist includes a mix of Roco SBB EWII IR and comfort stripe coaches and another one of my RailTop BDts.
I also have the 29859.1, the 34341 and 34345 on freight assignments (Post train/local goods trains). The 37345 is pulling a modern SBB EC like the ones between Zuerich and Munich.
I may still add the 29481 if it grabs me, but as I already have a Hag Re 420 Cargo, it was not a major priority for me.
I would love to see a Re 420 Cargo domestic from Maerklin. I am sure that this might eventually come as a re-edition of the Re 10/10 Set. A Re 430 (Re 4/4III) might also be interesting.
I would be interested in seeing how the conversion comes out. I have ordered enough LED kits to upgrade two of my models with basic yellow LEDs.
Regards

I cant believe what I read.
It is a wonderful model, (got a soft spot for SBB/BLS locos).
Well Lutz, I did'nt know you are the Märklin ambassador for this forum.
If you like, I'll get you a daily procedure of how to report to this forum and the type of information we require.
Any delays on your behalf is not exceptable.
We need accuracy, inside informations, best offers from dealers around germany, prompt replies and above all we need you because apparently we can't do it ourselves.
From now on your expert service is no longeer voluntary, we'll tell you from now on, what to do and where to go.
If for instance I'll buy a loco in future and it is'nt the quality, the design, the colour or any other little variation, what I thought I was buying, I will be blaming you for it for not informing me before hand.
The text above has no substance and should not be takenn seriously
I'll give you a choice: You always can immigrate to Australia.
keep up the good work in your own time
regards.,
John

Rajnish and Mike,
Thanks for the part numbers and info on them.
I have one more question though: I have made a PCB and installed bright white LEDs on them for my double-traction Br185's (see pics below). If I make PCB's with red LEDs on them for this loco will I be able to use them with the present decoder?

This depends on what your previous light system was.
If it was a led pcb you'll find the board had resistors.
In that case you hace to use resistors before connecting the led's.
The amount of led's would'nt make the slightest different to the decoder.
Usually there is enough power to light them up.
