I have a Marklin Mobile Station 2 Version 3.55 (MS) for 60653 60657 66950 66955
I have ordered a Minitrix #16392 DBAG BR 151 Electric Locomotive which also has loco card included
When the train arrives in the post, I need to register this locomotive

My MS was configured by the Retailer to run:
2 Hobbytrain trams
1 Fleischman train
2 Minitrix tains
I do not have the experience with this - I have read the Manual AND hence the below is my first attempt

Background to Problem:

I placed the newly purchased Minitrix #16392 on the track – no auto-registration (this is not a MFX loco)
To see what would happen, I just started running my first (existing registered Loco on the MS) Minitrix #11140
Both the Minitrix #16392 and the Minitrix #11140 started running
Used the function buttons and both had sound / lights activated. Simultaneous, but different actions for each of the locos
Hence, I assume the already registered Minitrix #11140 must have Address 3 (being the factory setting for Marklin?)
And, the newly purchased Minitrix #16392 must also have the same loco Address 3

I then inserted the loco card for the Minitrix #16392 into the MS and it gives me the Warning Message:
“Address already exists! Choose anyway?”
Which I said NO to...

NEXT STEPS QUESTION – Is the below the correct procedure?

For me to register the newly acquired Minitrix #16392 via the Loco Card, I should do the following – in this order:

1. Change the loco address for the already registered (on the MS) Minitrix #11140 – from 3 to… (say) 31
To do so, I will need to select that train on the MS - for me that is Position 1
This will then override the Loco address on the MS and also update the Minitrix #11140 loco address to 31

2. Then, from the MS station, select an empty slot (No Loco!) to register the newly acquired Minitrix #16392

3. Now insert the Loco Card of the newly acquired Minitrix #16392 which will automatically register this train
This train will now have the Address 3 registered on the MS which also happens to be that locos address

WOULD THAT BE THE CORRECT WAY TO DO THIS?

Dear Laurence -

I’m sure that JohnJeanB will have detailed instructions for you soon, but your problem is that you have 2 locos with the same DCC address. You will have to change one of them PERMANENTLY so as not to confuse the MS2. Two different locos but the same address is doubleplusungood.

Hi Laurence

Here is the little I know:
Using an MS2 indeed does not provide for an auto-registration except on MFX items BUT
- posing a loco ALONE on the track and setting the MS2 pointing to an empty space (among the 40 possible)
- asking the MS2 to "SEARCH" will result in the MS2 scanning ALL allowed protocols and all addresses
- indeed it will get ONLY the address and protocol leaving you with the need to configure the loco type and fonctions available

When a message address already exists you say OK and later you edit the loco ALONE on the track and select MODIFY and then ADDRESS
A DCC or MM2 loco will start to blink until the new address is entered and confirmed

When using a loco card as you describe (yes it is the correct procedure) YOU MAY STILL have to change the address if it is already used by another loco (not an obligation as for multi-tractions in 2 rails but a recommendation otherwise.

Cheers
Jean
