Hi guys,

I purchased this loco that supposed to be mfx

When I add it to the track , my device cs3 is unable to see it, i even tried to find it from edit button- discoperit mfx

Îs not a setup issue as I tested multiple locos before.

Can You give me ideas what should I do ?

Is the mfx clicked on in the CS3? If it is you might try entering the loco using the model number of 30000. Or in DCC mode. Have you registered other mfx locos on the CS3? Sometimes the loco is registered but it is hard to find in the registry. Try searching for it.

Yes, i tested and added other locos mfx today. All worked.

I tried dcc- no results . No movement , no lights, not a tiny move when attempting to register.

This loco wasnt added before , i just got it today.

I posted pictures how it looks inside. Not sure If the decoder is mfx .

Thanks

So you registered it as dcc? Raise the loco edit tab up so that it shows at least two rows of locos and download a picture of that for us. If the loco was registered through mfx it will ignore any dcc registration.

Did not work to register as mfx
Did not work to register as dcc- no results found when scanning was performed or using the database.

Not sure what you mean by "Did not work to register". I was able to register the loco as mm with address 78 even though I do not have one. I could have done it also as dcc. Of course since I do not have one I could nor operate it. Once again, if the mfx registration was successful even though you can not find it, the CS3 will not operate the loco with any other registration. Post a picture of your loco file.

I'm on a train and I find it difficult to get your pictures. Haven't seen any picture of the decoder yet.

With respect to mfx, assuming the loco is mfx: If mfx is enabled in the CS3, the loco decoder will ignore DCC and MM.
If DCC is enabled in the CS3, the loco decoder will ignore MM.

#30000 was Delta first, fx later, now mfx.

So if you want to test the loco with MM, make sure only MM is enabled in the CS3.

To test DCC, make sure only DCC or DCC+MM is enabled in the CS3.

You can set a new MM address without knowing the current MM address. Default should be 78.
You can set a new DCC address without knowing the current DCC address. You should be able to read the current DCC address, too. Default should be 3.
Regards
Tom

Hi guys,

Please see video on youtube, this is how I normally test mfx locomotives

1. first I wait for the station to find the loco
2. I use the find mfx option
If it doesn't work... but often it does

3. I try DCC - with database, with default address
4. I also try MM same as 3.

This is the first time when I have a mfx and it doesn't find it!
Please check pictures on my initial post, maybe it's not a mfx locomotive.

Thanks,
Adrian

which is Marklin's catalogue number printed on the box? This will tell us exactly which decoder the loco mounts. I haven't seen this in you pictures

It's 30000, as can be seen on the photos.
The decoder is soldered in and does not have a 21MTC socket.

OK. Didn't watch the full video.
In the video, you start a search for new mfx accessories and no new accessories are found. Makes sense.
You should start a search for lost mfx locos instead.

You can read DCC address 3 from the loco, which is a good sign.
As I wrote before, the loco will not respond to DCC unless mfx is disabled in the controller.
So, if you want to test the loco with DCC and get positive results, disable mfx in the CS3.

I bought one of these a couple of months ago and it is mfx and registered on the programme track. Might just be a faulty decoder. You could just return it to the dealer for a replacement. I presume it was bought new with warranty.
Take care I like Marklin and will defend the worlds greatest model rail manufacturer.

Do not disable "mfx search", disable track protocol mfx. Dunno where to find it on the CS3, but it is somewhere amongst the system settings.

Before disabling mfx, try a search for lost mfx locos. I think the menu item is somewhere near the loco list.

I don't own a CS3, but many times I witnessed mfx registration problems with CS3s at club meetings. After a few searches and a few reboots, the loco will finally work if it has a fully functional mfx decoder.

I found the option to check for lost mfx locos - no results found. That was the message

Maybe the decoder is not good ? I never ever has this issue before

The mfx option is in the System tab. According to the manual the preset mm address is 78 and the dcc address was 3 unless the previous owner changed them. However what you need to learn is that the CS3 will ignore the other addresses if it registered the mfx address. Deselecting mfx in the System tab would allow you to control the 30000 loc with dcc and you can find it using a programming track and the find loco option. The find missing mfx loco will not work if the loco has been registered in your CS3 or if it does not have mfx for some reason. I can't tell what the video you recorded is from. Is it your video? First thing you should do is create a programming track if you do not have one. Then delete all the locos you tried to create. Then turn off the mfx and place the loco on the programming track and run the find loco program. That should give you control of the loco. Then if that is successful, run a factory reset and see if that gives you mfx. You could also run the edit feature with the loco and do a full decoder read out which should indicate the mfx address if there is one.

Also from the video ir appears you are using the wrench for non-loco edit. Use the wrench in the loco tab at the bottom. Finally, if the loco mfx address was established it would be at the beginning of your loco list. If you show us that it might show us that it was found.

Return for a refund and buy one from a dealer new with warranty. My view is the decoder is faulty.

Hi rhfil, I added over 30 mfx locomotives before , never
had this issue. And all of the were added automatically by the cs3 when start option was active .

I also tried ms2 device. Option - find loco. It didn't find any mfx but added DCC-0 as a locomotive . I also tried from database number 30000 but with no imput from the loco.

Doing the wrong thing repeatedly will not change it to the correct thing. The search feature you launch at the beginning of the video is for solenoid items as it clearly states. You need to select the wrench in the loco tab at the bottom of the screen to launch a search for mfx locos. But you need to understand that it is possible the loco has been registered and once that happens nothing you are trying will work. Been there and done that. Delete all the locos you have entered mm and dcc. And give us a picture of the first group of locos or the entire list. To show the entire list just raise the loco tab just below the top of the screen. If you raise it all the way you will get a screen which allows you to control eight locos. If the new loco mfx address was created it should be in the first picture- left hand or upper left. If it is not there then we can try to find its non-mfx address. Do you have a programming track? If not make one. Then place the loco on it and in the loco tab edit feature launch the find address. If nothing is found return the loco.

0 is no valid DCC address. This result means that reading the address from the loco failed.
Your CS3 found address 3.
Remember to disable mfx protocol in the MS2 before trying to run the loco with DCC.
If 3 does not work, change address to 4 or any other address and let the MS2 write the address.

As I wrote before: This can only work after disabling mfx and DCC protocols in the MS2.
If 78 does not work, change address to 77 or any other address and let the MS2 write the address.

Hi try to use the loco in analogue, with a white transformer. If still not working defiantly
the decoder is fried or a bad contact somewhere.
