Can someone please tell me how to uncouple the Northlander.
New user of the site and new to Marklin.

It is normal for that to be shown in the instruction booklet, but that only shows how to connect them, unless I am missing something.

I have had mine assembled and if I recall correctly you just pull them apart, which is normal for this type of Marklin connector. You should wait for someone else to respond though, and not risk damage to the model if I am wrong.

Place the train on a straight section of track. Starting with the powerhead and the first coach, pull the coach away from the powerhead.
Once these two are separated, remove the powerhead from the track.
Take the next two coaches and pull the two of them apart
Repeat for the third coach and the pilot coach

So the same as with the ICE 3 if not also the 4. The manual shows a tool with a handle that sets on the track under the couplings. What is it for?

That is to get the couplings perfectly lined up when connecting them. I have that for some other models and it works well.
